Firehammer dog bones keep popping out!!

I recently got a used firehammer and I love it. I find it far superior to Nitro. The only problem I am having is every time that I hit any kind of jump I lose a dog bone. So far I have been able to find them but I can see things starting to get expensive when I don't find them. Is there anything I can do to keep the dog bones from falling out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
You can adjust the limit screws on the rear upper A-arm in more to limit the travel...
You can put a small peace of fuel line ..in the inner & outer drive cups ..to center the
dog bones......You can make a limit strap to stop the A-arms from extending full length
....I am sure some othe people will give you suggestions.......Slawhammer

Wow Slawhammer, there is a lot of good info in your thread. Looks like you have been there and done that with the firehammer. I will check the a-arm tomorrow and see if I can limit the travel that way and the limit straps look like a good idea as well. Could you elaborate a little on the fuel line in the drive cups maybe with some pics if possible. That is the one thing I cant seem to wrap my brain around to see how it works.

This is a lot of good info. I like your idea csp1971 of putting the dog bones on a leash, that is a sure fire way of not losing them!
 
another easy fix like the fuel tube is to cut some ear plugs, decidams, and pop a piece into the axle and outdrive. it is spongy and holds the dogbone in the center of the outdrives doing this. that what they mean by that

dif< foam/fuel tube -I----------I- foam/tube > axle
 
I think I see what you are talking about pipeous. I will have to try that too. By the way what kind of car are you holding in your avatar?
 
That's my FG on road. I call it a Semi, FG calls it the Atego Mann Truck, but most that race call them a Lorry. It's a 535mm chassis but the tires are basically buggy rims and the backs have extensions for the wider tires. I like the ground clearance. I wish I had of gotten video of me jumping it in a parking lot a couple weeks back. It's my baby. Lots of custom work done, and still being done.

Just picked up a 1/7 on road car to tow behind it on a trailer lol. I use this rc more than any of my others, and love racing the cars. They don't expect it to handle well but I am passing them all the time

I added the fg ball drives to mine and a 2 speed. the ball drives have no dogbone part at all. They are splined shafts with balls in them so zero play. and the one way in the 2 speed removes most of the drag so it rolls very smooth. I prefer on road as there is almost no clean up when done. Tires aren't cheap but that's the trade off

ya I hoped those letters and crap helped. closest to drawing a pic I could do. I'd have to look again at my stuff but I don't think the fh has limiter screws like the fg. the fh mt arms are also longer than the fg
 
Wow that looks like a nice rig from what I can see. I like on road also, less mess like you said. The letter diagram worked great, now I see what everyone is talking about. Thanks for the help!
 
The rear upper A-Ams have limit screws for the firehammer.....trust me on this...
look at a duratrac pdf....for parts break down...it show's a limit screw......

ya I couldn't remember. been swapping so many parts from 3 different models lately and all my stuff is in boxes for the next production when things arrive so didn't want to unpack until I am setup on the kitchen table again....

got that evil eye thing again when I said I had 5 more deliveries coming and needed to do some production... I shampoo'd the kitchen chairs today though so bought some slack for next time hehe
 
Ok, I adjusted the limit screws down a bit to restrict travel. I have been looking at those for the past month not knowing what they are for:) I also put fuel line in the drive cups so hopefully the dog bones will not pop out again. I will have to wait for the weather to clear up before I can find out. If all else fails I am going to make some limit straps, but hopefully it wont come to that. Thanks for the help guys
 
Ok..the thing with the dog bones..you want to try and keep the dog bone pins in the center of the drive cups....you need some movement....you have a inner drive cup on the diff & outer drive cup at the rear up right where the wheel is.......
with the limit screws ..you can make the a-arms parallel with the axles....that will limit the a-arms drop when going over a jump....Or last step some limit straps.....Slaw
