Ok, I recently purchased a Rovan 26cc baja clone. Well today I got in the mail from ups and I'm psyched about it. so I got all the odds and ends together. Put my spektrum receiver in it and mixed some fuel. Got outside and went to cranking, of course full choke then once it fired I cut it off. Well all was well until I started noticing the durn pull start slipping. I seems like it would not "catch" sometimes. As you can imagine the more I pulled and it not catching it got worse. Now It want catch hardly at all. I take it off and figure no biggy, I will order the metal pawl for it........WRONG! I cant for the life of me get the center screw off the aparatus. I can spin it but it will not back out for anything. Its like its spinning inside the houseing or something. Its like trying to replace a tie rod and its spinning inside the housing. If anyone knows a remedy for this even if its "to bad" "buy a new one" LMK asap. I've driven this thing for a total of 5-6 minutes since I got it. I'm getting antsy. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

1. WELCOME !!! :lol::D:lol::lol:
2. Please update your location.
3. There's a thread with a video on replacing / rewinding pull-starts - try 'searching' it. It's short and should make some sense, if you've already taken the pullstart off.

I would suggest calling the Hobby Store supplier, eating 'humble pie' if you have to - we all do on many occasions - and asking them to give you a hand.

Best of luck and I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
Hell, even if you don't, there are LOADS on Fleabay anyway, and not expensive.
Al.

hello and welcome.

allot of the clone pull starts can/will do this, ive only used zenoah pull starts and have not had any issues, might be worth a try.

Yeh. I've looked at tons of video on pull starts. Non of which touch on the screw in the center not backing out. I've re-wound tons of pull starts in my day mostly in weed wackers and push lawn mowers so re winding the rope is not a problem. I just need to get that screw out the center so that I can replace the Prawl with a metal one.

Welcome bud....do yourself a favour and get a Zenoah pullstart....

They last 5 times longer than the Rovan ones and only about 5 bucks dearer...

that was yesterdays dod, Do yourself a favor, take the pullstart that came on it and throw it away, after a month of weekly rebuilds on two and 1 breaking after a week when it was new I bought the cy pull start, what a differance.

Yeh. I went ahead and bought a new one. I went with one with a metal pawl in it this time. If this one fails my next thread will be "what is the most bulletproof pullstart available". Thanks People.;)

Well. Got me a pull start (another....couldnt wait for the one I ordered). Got a zenoah from the LHS for 20 bucks. couldnt believe he had one. (long story short. Someone ordered one 4 yrs ago and never came and got it). Then I had a H&L needle problem....or so I thought. Turns out the gas cap wasn't venting properly. Got that fixed and went out and ran the PISS out of it for about 25min. Ran great......then it started doing something funny. when I would stop it the engine would die. When it idled it would roll......first thing that came to mind was clutch. So I let it cool off and finally gotta chance to bust something open on it and what'a'ya know the damn clutch spring is broken. One of the hooks were broke off. Not to mention the durn pinion also has a "ear" missing on the back side where the two things are poking out. So now I need a 17t pinion and a new clutch spring before I can go out and run again. I'm not even sure what rpm spring this puppy has stock I'm guessing its 8000 or 6000 rpm. If someone has a clue which spring it is LMK. If ya got a spare spring and pinion I'll shoot ya some paypal for them also.:D

I went to the hobby shop and ordered new stuff. I went ahead and got a pack of 6000rpm and 8000rpm springs and a couple stock pinions. I figure for 6-7 bucks it wouldnt break the bank to have couple choices. Should be here tommorrow and I'll throw'm in and brake something else. Now I just need to buy some upgrades for it like pullstart cover and a filter cover. Maybe some windows? Who knows.:D

In the Baja platform they are sliding into place. When you switch them they pop out and bite into place. This will (in theory) reduce the wear in most instances.
