Well guys


the temptation was just to high so got me brother in law and went out for a blast at the aerodrome new us

well was up the aerodrome for 2 hours and only used the car for about 20 -30 mins

after the car has not been used for 3 years from last owner

choke on , primed the car started after 3rd pull .. result !

ran the car for about 5 mins .. then i turned the choke off and car stopped
try to restart no luck .. after a tention moment .. 10mins!! car stated ran for about 10mins and stalled

managed to get the cat started but really feels like its running really rich over fueling no power at all .. think car needs a tune .. what the best place to take it too for this in surrey or is it something i can do myself ?

Once primed and the choke is on you should pull the starter a couple of times till it tries to fire then you take the choke off and repull till it starts. This may be one of your issues.

You could also try reseting your carb to factory settings.

You have two screws on your carb the high speed and low speed needles high speed on the left and low speed on the right.

What you need to do first is gently wind them both in till they stop then you need to adjust them HSN 1.5 turns out and LSN 1.25 turns out you should then be able to start it and then adjust the needles accordingly but only very small amounts at a time.

If you are running with the choke closed for 5 mins it will flood itself. Have a read of the tuning guide here.......https://www.largescaleforums.com/showthread.php?t=2761

Reset the H & L needles as said above, follow the guide and you will have it sorted in no time and it will also be a valuable learning curve for the future. Just take your time and make adjustments to the needles in small increments so you don't miss the sweet spot. If you get stuck just ask!
 
Just a thought........are you sure you are starting it up with the choke closed? Sounds like it is starting with the choke open then after 5 mins you 'think' you are opening it when in fact you are closing it and it is flooding itself

yes just checked and yes starting with choke on then closing after 5 mins running

Not sure I understand what you mean mate!
The start up procedure from cold is as follows:
1. Close choke (lever should be in vertical position)
2. Pull starter until engine 'pops'
3. Open choke fully (lever should now be in horizontal position)
4. Pull starter and engine will fire up after 2 or 3 pulls
5. Let it idle or take it easy for a few mins to allow the engine to warm up properly

You shouldnt need to run with the choke closed as this will just flood the engine. If you need to run with the choke closed either the needle settings are way out or you have an air leak.

thats great help i always thought you had to run with choke closed and thinking close mean choke is off as when you close the butterfly inside and it only opens when move the throttle to go forward

So after all this, you are saying you were running with the choke on / lever down (vertical)?

Hi Al

that's is correct problem solved yes i had been running car with choke on lever down

shalll go for test drive soon
 
update!!

1st run today after doing the carb reset ...

right not been a great day i had done as all had advised with the choke ect and the reset of the car needles

on start couple off pull and she fired up on idle stalling after 10 seconds restart same again for few times manged to idle a little longer once throttle is touched the engine just bogs out and stalls :(

After all of that 'rich running' it might be a dirty plug, unless you changed it.
Aside, it may still just be a case of tuning.
Bogging on start up from rest, or when accelerating?

Search out a simple video a guy called 'Trip' put on here a year ago - simple but generally effective.

yes on accelerating but has stalled on idle too

will hunt for the video

No mate once its tuned and running well leave it alone!! Petrols hold a tune not like nitros so next time out just fire it up and have fun :D
 
Well another test run today and again stalling and bogging when trying to accelerate
So started to tweak the needles and the bloody pull start snapped ...! Grr

After a few hours managed to fix the pull start and will test again in a bit
