Just bought km t1000 2 speed from Dan...ran it today for first time and broke the wiper arm. I'm hoping it broke because of the weather (was about 30 degrees). I was thinking of ordering an alloy arm, but from what I have read, those may end up doing more damage to the servo because of having no give. Kind of disappointed to be honest, but like I said ...it was quite cold. I didn't hit anything substantial...just going over some ruts and notice the front wheel jerked pretty quick, then about 30 secs later the steering went out all the way.

What you guys think? Cold weather related? Should I go alloy? Thoughts please.

Definately weather related imo, anything colder than about 50 and plastic wont flex like like it is supposed to. as far as the alloy wiper arms you would still have the flex in the servo saver to absorb the jolts so i wouldnt see a problem with them.
 
when i replaced my wiper assembly, not because it broke, but because i upgraded it, i went all alloy, it still uses the same spring for tension on servo saver, alloy as well, you just have to adjust it so it will still turn under load, but still pop over to save servo. goin all alloy, it WILL have to be a tad tighter, as i found out, i tried the same adjustment as with stock and sitting still it popped over on saver, had to keep turning it 1/4 turn at a time till it finally would let wheel turn without poppin over. and so far with lots of torque turns, high speed whiparounds, hasnt failed yet. works great.
 
I've been kind of expecting some steering linkage problems, but so far it's been good. I did have the steering rod pop off the servo arm stud when I first got my truck, but it's been solid since. I spent about an hour today at out local BMX/Skate park today and didn't have one failure. I was jumping it pretty aggressively too.

On a side note, I broke another front upper control arm on my HPI 5B yesterday running it in front of my house. I was jumping a small snow bank and landed everyone of them.
 
I had mine out Saturday and broke the same part, I was running it around a parking lot full of snow and just decided not to turn any more. That looks to be a good place for an alloy replacement, to bad RPM doesn't make that part they make some nice plastics that would remain somewhat flexible.
 
Went ahead and ordered an alloy replacement off eBay for $18. Have three plastic replacement pieces coming too. I think it was just the cold weather...cold and plastic do not mix.

thats what i have on mine and it just takes a lil time to adjust tension down on spring to allow it to turn wheels freely, but if wheel is held in place will still let it slip over and do as it supposed to do
 
Yea, now that I have really looked closely at how mine was set up, I'm thinking the spring was far too tight. No biggie...hopefully this alloy ss will hold up for a while.

When you say "move over", how far and what direction should the spring move? Thanks

by move over i mean the slip arm itself poppin over as it should to prevent servo from damage. its all in the tension of that spring on the saver. set it so it just stays put with no moving for wheels to turn unobstructed, but if say you hold a wheel in position and turn the steering, the saver will still operate as intended. takes a lil time, start it loose, and just tighten down a lil at a time till its where it should be. since my wipers and arm are both alloy, they will slip over easier than plastic on plastic. alloy on alloy like mine is now, slides easier, and will prolly take a lil more tension than was stock. as i did mine, i watched the saver spot, to make sure it wasnt tryin to slip, while just turning the wheels sittin still, once i got it to turn with no slipping, i held a wheel, and using radio as i had been, turned the wheel, watchin the saver spot to make sure it slipped as it should.
