Hi Guys
I have decided to get myself an FG baja 4wd.
soon as I've sold my other toys off (rc cars/scalextric/heli'sand guns)and all of it will be going back into the new FG
What will be the first upgrades required( read as breakages ) lol
I have always upgraded my cars as I've gone along but these big un's are going to need a plan.
some things will break and get replaced with standard stuff as I wont be able to afford alloy (wishbones etc)
but is there a list of stuff to get to help make it more reliable from the off?

Engine mounts/diff etc..

thanks
WEZ

fg's are fairly reliable in standard form and the quality of the plastics is excellent so unless you want bling it will be fine as it is. A 2.4ghz radio & a killer bee are essential upgrades if it doesn't already have them. A tuned pipe will give you a performance boost, front cable or hydro brakes will help it stop better as will upgrading the layshaft brake to the tuning version.

If you are buying used, strip it down & make sure everything is good & use blue loctite when you re-assemble or you will have bits falling off!! I reckon if we made a list of people who spent most of their 1st run picking parts up off the field it would be massive :lol:

My marder is std & takes a beating from my crap driving but it still comes back for more :w00t:

hopefully I will buy new and it will recieve a full strip down and rebuild before it see's any field action.
I like a bit of bling but it has to be with function so wont get upgraded unless it keeps breaking or I get it really cheap.lol
so whats normally the first thing to wear out or break easily due to flexing or general use.?
sorry If I'm asking question that have been asked over and over!!

I think I will be running it with my older 40 mhz ko propo tx and saving a few £ to start with
thanks

failsafes and kill switches are a must for me as I have had runaways in the past

+1 on dwafys advice i went the other way and ended up spending enough to buy 3 complete cars mines full alloy and carbon fibre now its taken a long time to do but its 99% relable now and nearly bomb proof,,,,alloy engine mounts would be first on my list then tuned pipe as everyone wants more power,,brakes,,,alloy diff conversion,,,,,,,,upper rear alloy arms are a good investment as the stock plastic ones bend in bad landings/crashes and gears hit turnbuckle stripping the teeth,,,,steel gears are worth it as well the list goes on and on its all about budget and how much you want to spend but be carefull its adictive as a crack habbit

Rear alloy upper arms is a good 1. I got the lexan gear cover on mine which protects the gear bit doesn't solve the flexing problem  Its been ok for the last 3yrs so not complaining!!

Get a decent 2 stroke oil that is readily available near you & go for a 25:1 fuel/oil mix. Castrol Power 1 Racing 2 stroke oil is good & you can pick it up from halfords.

my fg baja 4wd is the most reliable largescale ive ever owned.

my suggestions would be alloy engine mounts (a must in my opinion) and keep bearings spare as the bearings for the belt tensioner and pulleys get flogged quite a bit. A steel spur is a great addition too.
