front cable brakes

guys

just installed front cable brake on the car its all pretty much connected but don't seem to work that well

anyone got any pics on how they connected the rod to the servo or have any good tip on best way to connect ?

Chris, set the pads first, so that they are as close as possible without any binding whatsoever.
Next, you need to tension the cables, and balance their effect on both sides as best as you can.
Sometimes I've tried a small amount of 'drag', meaning that at the 'rest' position, there's a slight braking effect. With the heavy FG MT they're on, it makes little difference, but means I can take better opportunity to permit full braking.
This obviously means that with part throttle, there's no braking, but whilst the vehicle's sitting, it means there's a slight load on the servo.

The servo should be able to lock the wheels without much of a problem - which servo are you using?

i have set the pads all up already Al i just need to method on connecting to the servo and saver
 
Hi Chris,
As you see with Keith's photos, the rods need to be aligned as straight as possible.
That length of cable you see permits the servo to move in the opposite direction, when the throttle's on.
Good photos Keith.

great stuff guys but when i apply the brake the servo is going the wrong for the front brake i.e not pulling the cable but right way for the rear brake i.e pushing the rod and looking at the pic it looks like both brakes are connected to same side
 
If this is the same circuit as the throttle brake, there are 2 ways:
1. Place the servo horn/arm the other side, so that it pulls - may need to carefully bend the wire but it will take it.
2. Locate a servo reverser - these were mentioned a couple of weeks ago and will revserse the polarity to the servo, thus there's no need to change the horn position.

Chris,I would like to add cable brakes are not that good mate.I have had two sets and both were crap to be honest.I would go for a good set of hydros.

put the front brake on the same side as the throttle......hope your servo is up to it though

Keith,i wouldnt bother putting brakes on any of your cars mate,they never go anywhere!
Oh,you could put a parachute on them in case they fall off the shelves.

i did have it connected to the same side of the servo was ok but think try a new method will up date with pics once figured out
 
I've the 'tuning' cable brakes, and once set up, I can lock the wheels.
I'm using Savox 1256TG 20 Kg cm servos.

Agreed as/when hydros are set up and bled, they're more powerful, but I spent more time with mine on the brakes than the rest of the truck, and basically 'lost it'. Cables are working fine. Non-stop leaks, air bubbles, losing fluid, fluid all over the chassis needing to be wiped out .... pain in the bum!!

I would consider a hydro layshaft brake 'though.

Keith's got 50cm of foam at the bottom of the shelves should there be that eventuality Voo!!
