Hi guys, I've just joined the forum as I guess this is the place to ask questions about my marder!

My front uprights have stripped. What are my options? What's the best bet? Replace with brand new fg plastic or go the alloy way? What are your thoughts on second hand stuff (eBay) I've seen plastic and alloy on there. I've also seen brand new alloy at around £40

What would you suggest?

Cheers

you can just get new plastic hubs they will be ok but in this hobby ok is not good enough,,,id get alloy ones mine were secondhand from ebay had them over 2 years now still as good as they were when i got them,,i built my car from ebay bits its the easyest way and you can get good bargains also try pitstop-shop.nl they have nearly every alloy/stock part you will ever need

I wouldn't touch second hand plastic anything - it's second hand for a reason.
Alloy items need to be checked as well as possible, if you can afford new then go that route, otherwise you may need a helicoil kit to renew the threads (if you do this, they'll be better than new anyway).

Hope this helps, Mike

Yeah stalyvegas that's the place! Haha

Just bashing really, the only racing I'll be doing is against my mates lol.
What about you? Do you race?

Yeah I race in the BRCA National series and EFRA European meetings. I'm going to be doing more clubbies at Notts and Wakefield this year and next year too.

Just to update.....

I have now fixed my uprights for a fraction of the cost of a new or second hand set using the drill out and metal threaded inserts method. My fronts now have a nice solid metal thread in both sides top and bottom. Just one of the benefits of having a pillar drill at work lol.

i have replaced mine with plastic one and then cable tie both the top and bottom arm together to help stop them moving apart from each other and help try to stop the thread being ripped out

Mine already had the cable ties on it when I bought the car but then it was an eBay special lol. I think on mine the threads were already stripped tho and it was the cable tie that kept things together.
I really can't believe how strong they are now I've put the metal inserts in. I even carried out my own quality control test of trying to rip them apart with my hands and they wouldn't budge lol
