on the XT the front front hubs/steering knuckles are screwed together at the top and the bottom with cap head allen screws and bushings. there is a metal insert that the screw mates with, i was just taking them apart to cleanup after a day in the dirt/some mud, freak thunderstorms did not ruin my sunday. but the top screw is really stuck in the insert to the point where i gave it too much umph and now the insert is spinning. anybody else been here? gave up as it was late and down want to be completely out of service untill my 7075 gear gets here. i probly just need to jam a larger screwdriver in there to keep it from turning just wanted some advice on it, i think i need this screw to make the aluminum hubs and c-hubs worktogether don't think they come with them. of course its probly the only screw i didn't use any loc-tite on to because i was worried about this happening.

Yep been there. A screw driver should work like you said. I didn't care about saving anything and just busted out the grinder and cut it apart.

It is. If you locktite that screw, which so many do, you end up spinning the little nutsert in the plastic. You can't heat up the screw to soften the locktite. It would just melt the plastic.

I used a soldering iron to heat the screw, and got two out.

One unscrewed easy, the last one I cut the head off with a dremel, then got the screw/stud out in a vice.
