front hydro disk brake idea

Hi, i just had a little brain wave while looking at this hyrdolic brake set and my MT with extended baja hubs. http://www.hobbydirect.co.uk/baja-hydraulic-front-brake-kit-194-p.asp


i know my picture isnt the best but it should give you the idea im thinking of trying.

basically if the space between the red arrows on the caliper fit at least 80% onto the red arrows on the hub (i don't think a little over hang would matter?), i could fabricate a U-bracket to secure it onto the hub. (either side of the hub depending on clearance)


now as long as there is still enough clearance for steering, witch i think there will be we should have some working hydrolic front brakes with no mods to the car its self? and it could be the same story with the back hubs, would just be a matter of installing a bias and we could have 4 wheel hydrolic disk brakes.


And if the brakes are of the main drive train, this would make it last tht bit longer?

just so you have a little better idea (excuse the rookie "paint" sketch's)

once the bolts are tightend it should hold onto the hub nicly, i might need to roughen up the surface of the hubs and braket for a better grip so it dosnt spin with the disk under braking
 
What if you fab a bracket that would follow steering knuckle using same holes that it mounts to mt with?

+ 1000 This would be a prob BC My New V3 The weakest link is the upper A-Arms Or so it seems to be on mine. I get a large Rock stuck in my rim and it will break the upper arm Quick. I have Noticed how much the Move. And i have Aluminum Uppers Now I think they still snap the Shafts Though :(


don't get me wrong !! Your Idea Is Awesome ! And I would still love to try it Myself BC im gonna Break poop either way so its worth a try :D

This is what I've been thinking about also. Need to add a one-way bearing going to front diff so I can set up some brake bias. Having 4 wheel disk brakes will take the load off the drivetrain.
 
i havnt done it yet as my "car fund" is being saved for the 2speed and belt drive, + big order of spares from usa.

But i am 99% sure ill have a system working next year(even if its just front brakes), ive messured up some Fg and baja calipairs with hubs with some friends from my local track and ive decided witch ones to use.

i would need to make some simple brakets to fit the calipairs, witch isnt a problem, fitting the master cylinder and bias isnt a problem.

What will be a problem is, i had plans to fit disks all round, but as some1 pointed out to me, i have a solid middle diff, so i wont be abale to run diffrent pressures to the front and back brakes

So i either run same pressure to all wheels, witch completly nulifiys the reason i wanted to fit hydro brakes to all wheels, or just go with the standard brakes on the drivetrain and fit front disks aswell to assist

if any1 eles has ideas on this would be kool :)

I would do all four. I keep holding out hope that someone comes up with a centerdiff for the X series...

i decided to use a baja hydro disk set very similar to teh one in 1st post(when i do it)

you would need the baja extended hubs to mount the disks on, and to be honest the baja hubs/wheels are a well worth upgrade anyway, save so much weight, less strain on the drivetrain and give you a much larger wheel selection to pick from

(im using the UBERrc baja hubs atmo and there BRILLIANT, uk company aswell, theres a few posts about this alrdy so i wont go on about them :rolleyes: )
