This should be my last what if question of the day. A little different approach to the normal format of a question. Just incase you are already sick of the new guy waiting for his truck to show.

If you were a gamblin man or even if your not. Which gear would your money on to break or need replacing first.

Options are:

1. Internal Front or Rear differential gears are the weak point.

....A - Front Differential inners will puke first

....B - The rear internal diff gear burn the candle at both end. They go first.

2. Front Differntial is a slacker, it's most likey to have problems first

....A - Front Pinion

....B - Front Crown Gear

....C - All of the above

3. Rear Differntial is worked harder. It will have problem with.

....A- Rear Pinion

....B - Rear Crown Gear

....C- One goes it take the other - both

4. Center Differential smokes, drinks, and eats raw meat. It's going first.

....A - Center DIfferntial Pinion Gear

....B - Center Differential Crown Gear

....C - A + B = C So Both will jump at the same time.

Where's your money at? After looking at some prices for the gears I hope that's not where my money goes. Big chunk if you loose the crown and pinion at the same time.

There's no way of really know which will snap, crackle and pops fist. Just looking for what you would think or what you've already experienced.

I may be way off with this guess because I have not seen the Rampage setup in person yet. But I am going to toss my money into the ring and say

4C - Center Crown and Pinion will take the plunge

Mainly becuase I can't picture in my mind the setup yet and how storng it may be.

Personally in my experience it's the rear diff that will go first. I'm not saying they are weak, it's just worked harder. The crown or pinion usually don't go, it's the diff cups, pins or spider gears that usually have the issue. What I always did was have a complete front/rear diff prebuilt ready to drop in. They are interchangeable.

4. Center Differential smokes, drinks, and eats raw meat. It's going first.

....A - Center DIfferntial Pinion Gear

....B - Center Differential Crown Gear

....C - A + B = C So Both will jump at the same time.

4C. My best guess from this happening to me. Heres why: regualar wear and tear. The bearing that 4A and 4C so depend on wore out. It got off center, got hot, and all the little BBs ejected big bang style. The bearing ate itself w/o having any ribs removed. The plastic part the bearing rides in got hot causing wobbly bad mesh bad between 4A and 4C so the weeble wobble made them fall down. Normal wear and tear.

Im seriously thinking about replacing all bearings during my annual tear down because simple inspection does not tell how long they have left, only if they are good right here, right now, funk soul brother.

Have the pins been holding up so far with the V3's?

Also, Hamster, I replaced all my bearings with the Vertigo kit and they hold up great. I'm not sure if that kit is still available, but if it is, I'd get it.

Thanks guys for taking the time to input. Eventually I plan on having a spare for just about anything that could break on the MT. For now just trying to get it figured out which would be the best choices to get. As for many a distant memory but for some a fresh one is that after that initial cost of getting the 5th scaler you are left with only so much left to try and spend in the right area. You inputs help greatly. Thanks again.

Following Deluges question above. I read that the only thing that was changed between the v2 and V3 gears was the pins. Is that correct or was the pinions and crowns changed as far as stronger material they were made out of?
