hi guys picked up a fs racing monster truck today, the guy i had it off said a modelshop said the diff had broke. but im not so sure, when i lift the wheels off
the ground theres plenty of drive there but as soon as i put it on the floor theres nothing.. what do you guys think it is? im new to large scale models. cheers

By nothing, do you mean that the engine revs freely and there's no drive or the engine stops / dies?

I suppose this is a used truck?

Have you contacted the former owner and explained what has happened - maybe he can advise you?

theres just no drive the engine revs fine and all the dogbones are spinning just no movement from the wheels. yes the former owner said he toke it to a lhs and they said the differential has broken. but surely if that was the case nothing would be spinning?

DRIVE SQUARES !!!
Try to remove the wheels and check that the drive square grub screws are aligned properly and are tight.
Are the wheels OK, or are they broken on the inside?

not sure will check that asap, thank you
will let you know what i find

checked them and theres no signs of wear on the wheels and squares grub screws were very tight

Never mind!
It's when you said the dogbones were moving.
Are you sure the wheels were on properly before?
Have you tried it now?
Maybe the wheels weren't on properly before - I presume you've replaced them correctly now 'though.

Al.

yes put them on the way they should be and all tight, cant try again until tommorow now as its 8.30pm here my neighbours would kill me lol

are you checking this with wheels on the floor or held up??

dogbones or ball drives?? have the pins broken off the dogbones or balls missing/damaged in ball drives?

If your holding it up do the wheels spin at all?

it is possible the diff is shot and it is only the grease or dirt inside that is giving you just enough drive to turn the shafts...hence when put down it cant move but I would also suggest the wheels would turn if the shafts are turning

As for the diff..jam the main gear and stop it turning then turn 1 wheel to see if the other turns the opposite direction..if it does hold it whilst still turning the other one and see if it will take any torque...sometimes things will still turn until torque is applied then the fault shows up..

let us know what you find?????

it has dogbones. the wheels spin while held in the air its just on the ground theres no drive in the wheels. when i just had the wheels off i turned the dogbones and i could feel the diff biting but then it would just go so im wondering maybe some off the teeth has stripped?

yep sounds like the diff has got problems..

try jamming up the main diff gear and turning both the wheels the same direction...

also jam up the main gear and hold 1 wheel still then try teuning the other wheel..

all else fails strip it out and open up the diff..
