Just been out with my bug and still running in the Stevo engine although its loosening up nicely now and has good power & speed. The thing is Im now running 33:1 on Stevo's recommendation so there is obviously less smoke than at 25:1 which I am not used to and was apprehensive about going too lean. It just gives a momentary light whiff of smoke when accelerating hard from low speed which I thought was about right but it cut out on me after 3/4 of a tank. When I looked at it the primer bulb was full to the brim and the plug was black so obviously its still too rich. New plug in and it fired up straight away so fouled plug was the problem.

Who else runs 33:1 mix (30ml oil to 1L fuel) and do you get any smoke at all from the exhaust?

I am going to get out with it again Thursday & Friday for another 2 tanks (in between working!) and lean out the H needle until the plug is running the right colour. This should also wake it up even more and open up its full potential.

Bulb & plug colour.......

Sounds like all of the indications are fine mate.
I run 32:1 approx - one of the famous mixing bottles.

Same here.
When it's idling away, any photos I have show it surrounding by fine smoke, but when running, its relatively smoke free.

If you're blasting, may want to check the temperatures.

What temp should it be running at Al and where is best to take it? I have a temp probe for work that would do the job.

i've run 32:1 for years..a good synthetic oil will produce very little smoke at higher rpms

motor should run around 260f , shut it down if it climbs up to 300...measure just above the exhaust port

The oil may also be a factor on the smoke side of things. Ive always run my stock engines on KCR Venom castor oil and its been really good, no issues at all. Now I have a tuned engine Ive changed all 3 to the KCR Venom Max fully synthetic. Never thought of the type of oil TBH!

I would only be guessing, or using my mate Google for an answer, but I would have guessed around that certainly.
Moo certainly knows his stuff, as we say!

I use Castrol fully synthetic 2 stroke and same story - as I mentioned earlier, faint wisps ... touching my head as I write, never a problem!!

same here I run putoline mx5 @32/1 it smokes a bit at first till warm then clears id say yours stopped due to the plug fouling up

Definitely mate. Fired up first pull with a new plug. Will give it another good run on Thursday & Friday then should be nicely run in and tune up.

Love the roll cage brace mate;)

J:rolleyes:

Aye, fook buying the plastic parts when a bit of M6 rod will do the trick just fine :D That is the cage from my 1st marder and its been like that since my first run out 6yrs ago when nothing was loctited by the previous owner. Lost that brace, the one from under the wing and a home made exhaust extension pipe that exited under the wing, rolled it through dog poop & it conked out covered in the stuff! Very memorable outing

It's bad enough when I've had a little blast outside the house, give 5 minutes' cool down outside the door, then bring it inside to smell .... !!!
Buggers letting the hounds out without carrying bags!!

Love it when the dogs aren't comfy with the beast blasting up and down. I'll always move back to the house and wait for them to go past, but if I see them 'fouling', their inconsideration gets matched by mine!!
