Can anyone tell me whats up with the random squirting of fuel from the gas cap/vent? Sometimes it sucks in air really hard when I loosen the cap up to refill, other times it squirts fuel all over everything. Is the system supposed to be vented somewhere else besides the little hole in the gas cap? My heli is......

no issue. as you turn and bounce around, gas splashes up around the cap. some will work its way in the cap bulb. occasionally as pressure is released (usually happens when the tank is more full of fuel) it will push out a bit of the fuel from teh vent hole.

its pretty normal.

all that gas all over everything looks REAL nice..........
Started looking for a tiny breather type vent to install on the tank. I'll post some pics if I find anything worth trying..........

how much you getting? some spurts and spits here are normal, but it should be bleeding or anything.

hit up your local ACO hardware. they should have small 1/8 or 3/16ths brass barbs with a thread on it. tap the vent hold, screw in the barb, and install 6 to 8 inches of fuel line on it, stick a stone filter on the end and call it done.

bike tank breather (ask the seller for different colours)

And a model boat water outlet fitting for the tank connection (item GA1D)

Here are the bike tank breathers and model boat water outlets.

First drill an 8mm hole in the tank and pass a piece of wire though to the tank

Next thread the model boat outlet on to the wire and tie a knot

Now pull the wire though the drilled hole till the outlet pops up and hand tighten the nut

Pull the wire back out the filler hole

Tighten the nut with pliers and spanner

Push on the one way breather valve

And the little hole in the petrol cap needs to be blocked :)

THIS IS NOT MY MOD, I FOUND THIS ON THE NET

Very Nice! Thanks for the instruction pics. Either way will serve the purpose, I do get a fair amount out of it at times. Its not every run, just now and then, I've checked to see if the vent hole in the cap was blocked and alls well. I flipped it over one time, pinched a hole in the return line and it squirted like it was beeing pumped through an electric fuel pump! Johns truck seems to build pressure also, when you take the cap off to re-fuel, it sucks enough air to hear it from 10' away.
I am running a DDM alum cap, Johns is stock.

the tank should be vented well enough so you don't develop much of any vaccume or pressure in the tank. if you do get either one, you ll have some running quirks.

if the tank has too much vaccume, it ll lean out the motor at upper rpm, and could cause the motor to lean sieze. if it has too much pressure built it, the pressure wiill force additonal gas thru the needles when running and cause you to run excessivly rich.

No luck finding that trick little vent on this side of the pond. Looks like the stone filter solution. Just came back in and fuel again squirting all over the place. I keep waiting on this thing to explode in my face.........not good.
