Hi guys, is the HPI Baja fuel tank grommet/cap same size as the losi DBXL 2.0?

if not is the DBXL 2.0 grommet/cap the same as a Losi 5T ones?

Reason I ask as at the mo my fuel tank is leaking a lot from the vent in cap (ive tried the mod thats been suggested on this forum but it didn't help much :( ) ive read that 1-way valve caps are also not very reliable, so the next thing I came across is this:

https://www.rcmodelz.co.uk/rovan-baja-no-leak-fuel-tank.html

obviously the tank is no use as its for a baja etc, but I'm thinking i could take the "guts" out of this and replace my stock gromet/cap/fuel lines etc on my dbxl 2.0 with these guts and cap?

Cheers!

i've had a look around over here in the uk mate,
but i think ( someone correct me if i'm wrong please) that the dbxl cap is slightly smaller than everything else,
all the listings i can find and fuel caps and inserts fit either everything except the dbxl or dbxl only,
you could try an x2/5t insert and try and shave down the outer diameter and see if that will work,
and thats a lot cheaper than buying a baja tank and finding out it wont work (y),
just seen some more bits and seems that dbxl is dbxl only fella, possibly dragon hammer as well cos they have a smaller cap as well,
link for x2 insert, remember that this insert will be oversize and need modifying though,

or there is the fid dbxl cap that has a built in one way valve same as the dragon hammer,
but be aware that these are a bit hit n miss for sealing as well on the vent,

thanks for info buddy! ..yeah im going to pass on FID, i recently bought a lot of FID parts for my 2.0 after they said the parts will fit, they either didnt fit, or were very badly milled!! so im staying away from FID parts from now on! ...i think i may have a hpi baja tank somewhere lying around so i will test the cap out :) cheers again buddy!

you're welcome mate (y) ,
strange that the fid parts you bought were so bad though, they're usually machined really well,
my dragon hammer all the alloy parts fit perfect and machining was all on point,
you maybe got unlucky and got parts from a bad batch or something,
i'm pretty sure the baja cap will be too big mate, but you may be able to modify the guts out of it,
also strange how dbxl tanks and caps are all out of stock over here in the uk as well, hopefully they will start to trickle through into stock before long (y)(y)

ok i just had a look, i think its a 5T or a 5B cap i have as it has the losi logo on it, it fits ok so will try it with this cap see if its any better, the inside feels much firmer than the dbxl 2.0 cap so will give a better seal im guessing, will see & let you know :)

ive also ordered this: to replace the grommet/fuel lines on my dibby with these, will see how that works out! more of a bonus if cap fits also, if it doesn't then i will just seal the stock cap when i fit this breather kit.

Fid parts are usually pretty decent, I think it had a lot to do with you having a dbxl 2.0 and not the 1.0 version.
100% buddy, i even messaged them prior to buying asking if the parts i wanted would fit to which they said yes, how wrong were they!! & then they don't reply to my messages on ebay etc! so yeah think im gunna steer clear of them from now on lol. I've bought a few vitavon parts which fit perfectly (hubs/center shaft brace) and also the genuine losi diff cases, all fit spot on :) im still trying to find a center diff bracket/brake housing as the FID one is a joke :( ..if it worked it would be excellent, but as soon i tighten the bolts, it puts too much pressure on bearings for the brake so the brake sticks and wont go back to neutral position, as soon i loosen the bolts, then it frees it up its a simple milling error, i emailed FID and guess what... no reply lol. So im sorting it out with ebay.

Man, that sucks! I really liked all the fid stuff I had on my dibby. Center diff mount and brakes were about the best. Hopefully they make it right, ebay will at least get you your money back.

Yeah is a shame 😒 i jad some fid parts on my original dibby back in the day amd couldnt fault them which is why i decided to upgrade my 2.0 using FID, but it seems they have just assumed parts they sell will fit the 2.0 with no issues instead of actually testing them! I will make a post in mear future to help others of all the issues ive had, along with the mods ive had to do to make some of the parts fit, even a simple thing like there alloy radio tray, i had to dismantle the servo to make it fit! but some parrs are just a no go. FiD have really let themselves down for me.
