Well, i just snapped my new HARM clutch bell.... was on in for about 2 hours and PING it snapped, thats the second in as many weeks :cursing:
In a way im glad it only cost me £16

I figured something obviously isnt right here..
on re-reading my threads about it, i can only assume that the carrier pins must be in the wrong locations as Big the Better suggests.

When i changed from the plastic carrier to the alloy carrier i just changed the pins and had no idea one was slighty shorter.

So.. where does the short pin go. I had it in the top right corner.. my guess is
that its not meant to go there....

Cheers guys

the short pin goes bottom left as there is a small metal brace about 3mm thick which attaches to the engine mount so the smaller pin compensates for this :)

Yep at £16 I'll swallow that as a lesson and hopefully a guidence for others changing the carriers from plastic to alloy.
It such a small difference in size of those pins, I never noticed !
I tore everything down yesterday, took diff apart cleaned and re greased and ready to go. I figured I tore the engine down the week before, she aint going anywere time for a clean !
Glad I did, the diff was empty of grease, its been a while...eeks. Lol

hehe, aye i did my carrier other day, dunno why but i just lined up the 3 pins next to each other & noticed the difference otherwise i would probably had the same prob as you ^^

Lady luck was with you thayt day :-). Gave me a chance to givew a good clean through. Picked up a small waterproof box the other day, gonna see if I can re house the electrics in it, I've a killer bee and a voltage regulator all to protect, doesn't all fit in the standard FG receiver box. See how that turns out this week :-)

ah shite, unluck mate. yeah i fitted an alloy carrier a few years back, and it was by pure chance that i spotted the 3 different short lengths of pipe which the bolts go through! when you look at the front of the engine, so long as the carrier side is parallel to the clutch's ali housing, you're laughin! even in the past i've noticed things were a bit scew-wiff after a rebuild so i had to take things off again lol.. oops!
anyway, get some video of it!! and when you invest in a new exhaust you can venture up the gearing a bit to say a 19/44

I did take a short vid on my BBerry, was hard controlling with one hand
the last 10 secs or so is probabley the most intresting bit

A good grease to use for the diff rather than normal LM grease is available from any JCB dealer, it thick sticky blue or green stuff - it sticks like 5hit to a blanket and won't leak out. I've used it in some of my diffs for years.
