i have been seeing on here alot about people not running the cover over the gears and was just wondering if this is a wise move i have melted one set of gears and was just wondering if this would help with that. but my concern is dirt and sand getting in them and tearing them up even quicker just wondering what your thoughts are. and how long does everyone get out of plastic gears

Most don't run the cover with Metal gears. You also have to vent the cover quite a bit to release the heat build up. I have 60 - 2mm holes drilled in mine.

Gears are a funny thing, what I mean is their many options for many situations for instance, With me i run in rocky gravel, dry sandy areas and i have my a and b gears in plastic and my c and d gears in metal, with no cover , and ive put about 4 tanks thru it and the metal gears still look new and I should get 2 more tanks out of the plastic gears if you run in mainly sand snow street,or grassy areas you can run plastics gears with no gear cover and youll be happy with how long you get, but if you run in the same areas as me then you should use a cover, the stock cover or make your own thats vented really good for lots of airflow, metal gears are good to have because of how long they lasts if they don't get too hot, my suggestion is to get hardened steel gears and if you need a cover and you are able to try and make one out of aluminum or use the stock one with lots of holes drillled, another thing I do is put a light coat of bearing grease or rub alittle parrafin wax on the gears before each run
