gear pinion,main gear question??

Please tell me im not being stupid!!

i currently run 18 tooth pinion and a 46 main gear,now the standard is a 16 tooth pinion,and 48 main gear,please tell me that this would give no difference to either acceleration or top end???

In my opinion this will cut back on your acceleration but give you a slightly better top end. Just think about the gearing on a push bike.

I will also add that what ever gear ratio you have, the two gears teeth added together will always equals 64. Otherwise you will have problems with them meshing.

Correct :cool2: A larger spur and smaller main gear gives less zip off the line but more top speed.
