hey guys i could use your help. i been working on my sons xt most of the day. i have almost everything done to it. just a few things left to do. i'm trying to remove the oem gear plate. i removed the 3 large & 2 small side cover screw & the 4 bottom screws. it pulls away from the motor but it's hanging up behind the d gear. i gueass it's the bevel gear. what am i missing? i'm going to take a break away from it as that usually fixes it lol.

Did you remove all the gears and square drives first. The shaft for the D gear is fastened in a coupling in the center of the brakes. The gear plate will come of leaving the shaft behind. You will have to remove the plastic side guard. Then still wiggle it a bit because the chassis angles up.

I removed the a & d gears w/their square drives. I couldn't do the b & c gears bc I can't back up the stud to remove the nut. It just free spins. & yeh, I had to take off the chassis side plastic just remove the gear cover. Sounds like I did all that was necessary. I'll go try it again. Knowing that the d gear shaft stays on the chassis helps. Thanks. :)

If you loosen the screws that hold the bearing mount on the back side of the brakes will give the shaft a bit more play. Pull the top of the plate out first to clear the top plate. You can also loosen the two motor mount screws under the pull starter. This will give the clutch bell some wiggle room.

I got it off. I wanted to be careful as it put up a hard fight. I eventually rocked it off. It had some kinda green tinted glue or threadlocker on it. Thanks rcdad.

ok, went to put it all back together & overtorqued the lay shaft (b & c gear shaft) w/a ratchet??? i was tightening the nut on the shaft. it just sheared w/no warning. the meta inside looks like powder inside. not even a cheap cast look. lol i'm scared to touch it haha

Don't over tighten the nylock nuts on the gears. Especially the brake lay shaft. It will cause misalignment issues on the center planetary gears.
