I did not want to highjack a previous thread, so i started a new one.

I bought my DR used from a dealer , who did do some upgrades.

I was reading, that some of you Guys had extra Gears with your DR and that the gears are plastic.

Mine are steel. they are on a hub with 4 pins on it, that holds them in place. the Nuts are all the way tight, but the gears itself have some play on the hub.

I also noticed, the brake shaft axle seems to be a two part, one side solid to the diff, the other has the brake disks on and feels “sloppy”. It has play in the bearing .

Do i have the stock setup ? if so, how much play should i have in the gears? it appears , that if i leave it the way it is, it will ear out soon. But because the way the gear carrier is built, I have to add some washer or turn down the carrier hub on my lathe to get rid of the play.

I will try to get a picture up, once i charge my camera

here some pictures. i removed one of the gears, to show you the carrier. as you can see, the gears are riding on the carrier. The hub is deeper that the gear, which causes the the play in the gear itself.

did anyone do some mods to them, to get them a little tighter ?. as sloppy as they are, im sure they will wear out quick

They last a long time. The gear on the lay shaft needs to have play unless you can shim it perfectly. Since it doesn't come shimmed from the factory it has a bit of play the center diff seems to stay aligned.

how about the play in the lower / output shaft, which carries also the brake-rotors ?

would it be advisable to make shims to tighten up the gears ? or do you leave the play ?

That's actually the one I was referring to. If you pull the slack out of it, the center diff will no longer mesh correctly. You can use shims as long as the center diff is meshed correctly.
