Just wanted to see what everyone else thinks on when to open up the gearbox and have a check inside.
Ive had my Baja SS for nearly 4 months now and its running SWEET. I only get to use it for about 2 hours every weekend (I HATE the blimmin winter!!!) and don't bash particularly hard, just have fun. Was just unsure at what stage it is normal to have a look at the gearbox to check all is still well in there.
What d'yall reckon ?? Cheers , P

If it aint broke.......:clown: Winter is a good time for checks like that so you don't lose out on too much bashing time if there is a problem. Should be ok tho. You will usually have some indication if there is a problem from pushing it along the ground before you start it up. Get used to its sound now while its running sweet then in future you will notice any funny noises, clunking etc all not good!

i open mine up once a year (maybe twice ) unless i suspect i have an internal issue.

so far i have had one isntalled for 2 yrs and i JUST went thru it a few weeks back, other than one bad bearing all else was great. but i would suggest atleast a couple times a season to lube and check bearings.

I'm probably just a fussy bugger but,,,I strip mine down every couple of months and wash it out with petrol,,,even the bearings,,,,carefully pop the seals out with a blade on the outer edge,,,,wash em,,,,repack with hi temp bearing grease & pop the seals back in.
Same grease for the gears.

Even though mine is a clone,,,the gears and bearings are still like new,,,not bad for car that is 1.5 years old.

I do the same for the wheel, clutch bell, & bellcrank bearings also,,,,,,,,,all original!!!!!

Your right BTB,,,,,i'm as tight as a fish,,,,,don't like spending money until I absolutely have to!

It owes me a grand total of $1400 AU,,,,,which still won't buy a stock HPI 5b here.

I know HPI is much better quality,,,,but I still won't buy one until they have a more humane price tag.

I do want one,,,for as to be my queen.

Thanks for the advice fellas. I figured it would probably be ok for a while yet. When I built the car, I assembled the gearbox very carefully with plenty of gease and even re-packed the bearings with good quality grease, and made sure it was all spot on. (I was actually holding some of the gears in my hands, laughing at the size and weight of them, having been used to your average 1/8th nitro gearbox !! :clown:)
But all seems fine so far, so will maybe wait til autumn and give it a check over then. Cheers y'all :clown:
