I just got a new gear plate as the old one melted arund the bearing closest to the clutch bell. Now at the end of a longer bash it has melted again.

I checked that everything was loos and not thight, everything spun around free and clear. Maybe it's time for an alu one!

I pulled it all apart, and it seems the heat comes from the clutch. And the two clutch halfs are worn uneven. One are about 1-2 mm more worn then the other.

alloy carrier, high grade ceramic bearing ( go with acer if you can get them). i have tried the tfe bearings which i have them in my hostile hubs and in my tr clutch system but when it comes to buy new ones i am going to look for a different vender. got nothing against eddy just don't like how my tfe bearings are slinging grease out of them on every run (of course i kinda urked eddy and he don't want to help me know either. anyway i recommend the acer because you can order them in the sizes you need and they are true ABEC5 ceramic nitride bearings not just ceramic coated like other companies bearings

plus 1 to the lauterbacher

Check that everything is aligned properly before you consider spending money on options.

Heat is friction which can be caused by several things - overgearing included.

Al.

over gearing is one, clutches not adjusted properly is another (assuming you have an adjustable clutch) , or clutch shoes sticking at the pivot points (bolts)

that gear change you made is very large. did you change tires or change the layshaft pinion/diff ring gear and made that large of a pinion/spur change to compensate? i would guess the real reason your plate melted was because the truck is overgeared causing the clutch to slip a lot. an alloy plate and fancy clutch may fix the one problem, but not going to help heating the clutch up.

my gear plate has worn too around the back of the plate where bearing is, ive had it on the marder which i brought 2nd hand 7 months ago,so i don't know how old the clutch is and how hard it was used prior to the 7 months i owned it! basically i have given the marder a good pasting and 70% of time use 22/42 gears with 16 lay and 48 diff, im going to buy a plastic one as it has done me well, took abuse too with alot of 50mph + runs and monster truck tyres as well as running on grass.
