Hi Guys, my 1st post as I need some advice.

I've had various nitro models over the years, planes, heli's etc but really fancy a proper petrol powered model...less hassle for fuel etc.

After repairing my nephews nitro rustler yesterday, I made up my mind and decided to look around for a proper petrol model. Always liked the Marder for some reason.

I have found a 2wd Marder brand new for £375 UK posted, this seems like a bargain to me, what do you think? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

Going for a look around the forum now. Thanks for your help.

John

Hi John,

WELCOME TO LSF!!

If it is brand new, it sounds like a bit of a bargain.
Does it come with motor and all radio gear - servos, transmitter, receiver, etc.?

Any photos?

Al.

Hi Al
Thanks for the reply but I made a mistake, it is a Spider?

Yes it comes with 2.4 system fitted.

John

EDIT.
Sorry for wasting you time folks I don't even think it is an FG model

Hi John, there's no time wasting on this forum when we're trying to make sense of something!!

By the sounds of it, it seems like you may have one of the many 'clones' of the super-successful HPI 5B Baja buggy.

I've seen something advertised on Ebay that looks different again.

Please post a few photos if you can, then we - others are as keen as I - can help you wherever you need help.
Engine/clutch is generally the same in all of these LargeScales before modifications start ...

Al.

I don't know who's first on that one!
It's like what's known as the FTX Punisher over here, but that's probably rebadged something else.

It looks fine.

Everyone - myself included - who 'bashes' rather than races, swears by getting hold of a remote kill switch.
Check out the Killer Bee site.
Generally, cheaper models 'save' money by providing usable electroncis, but which are substantially cheaper than others, generally for a reason ...
Better safe than sorry.
These things are big, fast and heavy - they can inflict and/or sustain serious damage - not that any of us would wish it!!

Al.

I still think I would rather go for a proper FG model, even used would be fine so I'll keep looking.

Yes I would always use a kill switch, used them on all my nitro models after seeing my mates car disappear into the distance...lol I have never laughed as much in all my life...hit the kerb and jumped a 4 foot fence...lol

Great looking forum, looking forward being part of it :cool2:

Hi John,
Apologies if it's 'grannies and eggs', but there are 2 distinctly different things:
1. Failsafe - switch off Tx, or contact lost, it sends the throttle brake servo to a preset position - normally half to full brakes - BUT NEEDS BATTERY POWER. This is normally included within the set-up of most modern radio sets, so an extra failsafe purchase is not normally required.
2. Remote Kill Switch - this basically cuts the ENGINE if Tx/Rx communications are lost AND/OR battery power is low/lost. DOES NOT REQUIRE BATTERY POWER. DOES NOT RESET THROTTLE/BRAKE POSITION.

Basically both are required. If the failsafe is not set, battery is good and radio comms are lost, the killswitch will kill the engine, but no brakes will be applied, so it make take a while to catch up with it ....

If no killswitch, but failsafe set, the engine will continue to run, but brakes will be applied - if set.

Al.

yes go for the real thing and don't buy cr£p like a lot of folks do:(

thinking all are equal which they arn't.......it will be cheaper in the long

run to have the genuine item:D

as Al says kill switch is really a must for a basher

K....

Where in Scotland are you hiding??

I'm in Fife. you anywhere near?

I'm currently running an FG baja and may have a plastic one up for grabs shortly

Thanks for your kind words Al, I wasn't paying attention. Yes this is on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320727186849?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Like many people, I am usually into modifying my models with various alloy bit and bobs, I sometimes find this just as much fun as using the model.

John
it is a cheap fg marder clone not a hpi clone. smartech spider, carson attack, xtm, so on.there are around 4or 5 copies of the marder, most parts interchangable, except gearplates, large engine mounts on some models.some have longer arms too.
if that is yor budget id go for a used fg marder, they are well made and easy to maintain also pages of used parts on ebay.ive had mine over a year now and rate it.
