I folks, I have lurked the forum for a while and thought I could chime in. I have some 1/5 scale buggies from HPI and Duratrax but no Monster Trucks. I would like to find a USA friendly Monster Truck. Do you have any suggestions? By "friendly" I mean parts availability.

Are the HPI Savage 1/5th scale or smaller? I'm not sure.
I meant good 1/5th scale gas MT's.
Thanks,

In the UK it's called the FTX Destroyer in the U.S it might be called the Nutech Destroyer - same thing, different name and it's a belting 4wd monster truck.

What sort of budget do you have? The HPI savage are 1/8 scale. I have a really nice tricked out race savage I wish I could get half of what I have in it.

I would like to stay under $1500 if possible. I looked at the FG but I'm hearing that parts are getting more hard to get. I don't want another Firehammer situation. I have one of them and I have to get parts from Germany.

i would wait for a bit hpi has released plans for building a 1/8th scale gasser mt. prob be a variant of the savage. it would have good parts support states side

but a tricked out savage can be fun too here was my old one

the only things that seem supported in north america would be mcd and redcat. getting parts for an FG isnt that hard. there is fgsupply.com, largescalerc.com does have some stuff in stock. i myself just order parts for my fg from hobbythek in germany. generally takes 5-8 days to get and thre parts are cheaper. sure shipping is a little more (for me not so much, im in canada, shipping costs from the US are very close to what it is from germany) but once you figure what you save in parts it evens out.

if you want a gasser mt thats a little smaller, wait till hpi comes out with the 1/8 scale monster, im guessing its savage based. the savage is a great platform. or if you don't mind nitro, or even electric, there are 1/5 scale conversions for the savage platform.

Yea parts for the FG trucks are pretty easy to get. You're not going to find them in your LHS but as was said above there are a few US based websites that can get you the parts fairly quickly. I've never owned an FG truck but I did have a Marder so I can attest to their durability.

It sucks that nobody makes a true monster truck. The FG and Redcat trucks are cool but they're buggy based. I want something like a Tamiya TXT-1 with a center mounted tranny and solid axles. Now that would be awesome! Heck even if somebody were to offer just the solid axles in the proper size id be a happy camper.

If you're on a budget, the Redcat Rampage MT isn't a bad setup, ONCE the servos, radio gear, and body are replaced.

For the money, I'd go with an MCD Competition MT myself, but then again, I'm a little bit of an MCD fanboy

I really like MCD but only know of two places in the states to buy parts one being Largescalerc.com and I forget the other one. If I could afford it and where to buy another large scale good chance it would be a MCD but would be a buggy. The Red Cat XT will be a decent one once they get some issues worked out.

I have one and wouldnt recomend, one to anyone,i have had nothing but problems with mine, alot of the parts, are not made as strong as they should be,i would go with the redcat or mcd.

I was hoping things had changed as at one time I was a tester for Nutech. :w00t:
