Was thinking about getting my step son a RC car. He's always watching me with mine and looks to be interested in the hobby. I wanted to get him a good beginner car/truck preferably electric. Maybe 1/8 or 1/10 scale and for around $200. Any ideas on what cars fit that profile? Thanks in advance guys...

Traxxas monster jam trucks are pretty cool... my wife has the grave digger so she can play along some times... I think they are a little over 200 but not much... great little truck, not too fast, fun to jump things with and pretty durable.

I bought my 6 and 9 year old each a shredder. It's a bit more, but a great car for the price. They also had the stampedes one of which the Grave Digger version. They thought they were too small compared to my 5th scales. The shredders are big, light and quick. Parts are super cheap if he breaks something. They have been very reliable so far.

I thought about a shredder but I don't want to dive in that much yet. I don't know if he will stay interested or if it will be a break it and be done with it. I guess its a good excuse to buy one if he does lose interest lol..

the duratrax evader ext2 is a great beginner car that or if he wants sonething a lil faster you can get a redcat twister xtg 190 dollars and its brushless and lipo ready he will have a blast with that

Tamiya... Lunchbox, Hornet, Grasshopper, Mad-Bull etc. All kids first R/C should be a Tamiya. What better way to teach the boy how to fix something than to have him build it in the first place, or you guys could do it as a father son project. Building one is half the fun!

Thanks for all the input guys. I decided to go with the Redcat Caldera sc10e for him. Looked at all the others that where mentioned and they also looked good but I'm really happy with my CAT so I figured I would continue my biz with them..thanks again guys..

I started off with a TRX Stampede and I loved it. So much so that I recently bought another one. The parts are cheap and they're available locally. It's super easy to work on, as well.
