Just in time for Snowmaggedon in Kansas City I got my first 5th scale!! I was planning on getting a Baja SS in a few weeks but my daily Craigslist look turned up a 5ive in good condition paired with a Spektrum dx3e. The owner said he only had a few tanks through it. Overall it seems to be in great shape with a little body rash on the right side. My first impression was holy hell these are HUGE!! I saw the vids and pics and I knew they were big but DAMN!! I can't wait to run this monster! It lacks a kill switch I think and I was going to loctite the screws in the next month but I'm sure the last owner did. He had about a dozen other cars including a Baja. I picked it up for $900 which is cheaper than I see them go on Ebay for. Come on Spring!!

You did well, sight un-seen, they are indeed great trucks. All I have done to mine, is a 29cc 2 bolt big bore kit, 813 carb. and 1 in. velocity stack, and it hauls just fine. I removed the tuned pipe it got annoying after a while, and the mods. I made actually made more power increases on the bottom end than the pipe ever added, so more power and less irritating to the neighbors, win, win...

Ah here we go. I do pretty much everything from my Galaxy now and I had to pull the battery and give it a restart. Anyway I haven't had a chance to do much except stare and drool. I need to get a kill switch and I checked the fail safe and I'm glad I did. It was set with the throttle cracked open. I guess next is build a stand to put this thing on. Or come up with a design and material list anyway. I think I can fit a 1/5 scale auto lift in my garage. I can't believe this is the same size as my daughter's Power Wheel. So wicked. I'm sitting on about 8 inches of snow as of the moment so come on Spring!! :):)

The 5ive and my wife's beat the hell up Stampede. The duct tape is because there was no body left to Shoe Goo. The radio I got is a dx3s and 2 receivers, one with the fancy telemetry. I think I did pretty good and I almost got the boss convinced it is a good toy investment. Now I must thin the herd....

A single seat Barbie Jeep. On a side note the Jeep uses a 550 size electric motor...

Right on! I was playing a little on davesmotors some today thinking of how to spend some money this Spring. I was thinking of starting cheap and doing a big bore kit. I think I could fit the 400 small block from my Blazer into the 5ive but it may be top heavy lol. What is the 812 carb? Is it slighly larger? If you don't mind me asking another question what oil do you use? I was thinking of Stihl because I buy it by the 6 pack for my weed eater and chainsaw (they mix 50:1) so yes I need another can.

I can not speak on the 812 carb I really like the 990 I would suggest that you do not use the stihl oil you will want to get a high performance oil like what they use in 2 stroke dirt bikes. Your weed eater will not reach the high revs and the stress on the motor that you are going to be putting on it when you drive so regular 2stroke or weed eater or chainsaw oil will not hold up as well.

The walbro 813 carb. is the same size, but does away with the choke lever, but more importantly it boosts bottom end response (power) by delivering the fuel better at low revs with a different diaphragm setup (internal acceleration pump). I use synthetic 2 stroke chainsaw oil and it has been great (cheap), clean plugs, good tuning range, and it is in a quart squeeze bulb measuring bottle which makes the gallon can I have easy to fill and mix. 2 stroke is 2 stroke, they all rev to just under 25K RPM's, almost all oils are built for that range. Snowmobile oil is in the product family too. Low ash is important to keep bearings and plugs happy. I would also recommend 3/16" tygon (small engine shops carry this cheap by the foot) fuel line replacement as it is a touch bigger dia. than the stock, and it is see through unlike the stock black rubber which will allow air leaks (bubbles) when trying to tune, very aggrevating.
I picked up the 2 bolt 29cc big bore kit, 813 carb. and 1 in. alloy velocity stack, and aftermarket air filter for less than $140 shipped. It has transformed the power completely better than the previous $150 I spent on a tuned pipe.

It doesn't look like much w/o the pipe, but it has far more power now than before:w00t:

Revolauncher who did you order your parts from? Also how does it start when its cool outside without a choke? I imagine you would just have to prime it a little more to get it lit off.
I use synthetic oil in my saw and weed eater now so I always have some at the house. I figured it would all pretty much be the same but I always look for advice from someone who has been there. Don't you also have a DBXL?

No DBXL, just the 5ive T and it starts right up 3rd. pull, hot or cold. I have ordered from largescalerc.com and davesmotors.com for the most part.

Like Revo said, mine always starts in 2 to 4 pulls. I also order most of my parts from DDM and recently ordered some stuff from Largescale RC. eBay is also great place to find spare parts and stuff, I've found some real deals there the last couple months.

Do yourself a favor and switch to Klotz technoplate or Castrol, these are not weedeater engines and believe me you want to protect your investment. With either of those two you will not go wrong. If you decide to do a engine rebuild in the near future and you will using just your weedeater 2 cycle oil you will find out the reason for not using it fast. The build up of deposits inside your motor will be evident as soon as you tear it down. Just my 2 cents it's your money and your engine. It's kinda of like running 82 octane instead of 92 or higher, yea you might save a few cents but in the long run it will come back to haunt you. Just saying :)

I have one goofy question. The reciever pack is the stock Losi pack with one connector. I noticed the higher mAh packs have the Tamiya plug for charging at a higher rate. Can I charge the stock pack at 3 amps without melting the wires? I charged at 1.5 amps but it took around 2 hours. I assume it can take it yet I like to ask. It is suppose to get above freezing this weekend so I may try to do a little parking lot bash and see how she handles. Can't wait!!

The second plug is not to charge at a higher rate that's so you do not have to remove the battery from the compartment to charge it. The stock battery is 1700mah so I would not suggest charging it at 3amps it will get very hot and heat is what destroys the battery 1.7 at the most.

Go to KillerRC.com and get the 7.4v Lipo he makes for this truck, you will be so much happier. He's got a vid on youtube comparing the stock battery vs his Lipo...big difference in steering reaction.

Ahh. I'm use to my nitros with two sets of wires on the off side of the power switch. I guess I should have mentioned it is a 3000 mAh pack, I thought the manual showed that as stock.

3000mah is the stock pack for the 5ive T and I would not charge it at more than the 1.5-2 amp rating as the wires cannot take it, the sub-C cells would be just fine....
