Hardening drive cups?

I've heard that torching the drive cups till they are cherry red can harden them.was wondering how exactly its done like how long to wheaten then how to do the cool down. Then I was gonna add the sleeves over the outside anyone know what size the sleeves should be.

this is another best guess, - i think you have to know what type of steel you are working with- heating. if the heat would harden, but make it more brittle-- and weather the steel should be quenched in oil- or water. i would go with the sleeve idea.
