My KM T1000 is a few months old. Yesterday I decided to give it a good cleaning. After removing the electonics and protecting the carburetor opening, I washed the chassis thoroughly. I used cold water and some Dawn diswashing liquid. Nothing agressive, When I was done and everything was dry, I nothiced that the makjority of the orange anodizing had washed off! What is left is a very light colored orange and in some places, like shock caps, the anodizing has almost completely washed off!
Is this the norm for the KM anodizing?

I have heard of this happening several times. From what I understand about the process that occurs when the parts have not been left in the tank long enough to create a thick enough oxidation layer.

I would not have thought it is normal for any anodizing KM or otherwise! Have a look at what constitutes that Dawn Dishwashing Liquid.

I found the best cleaner/degreaser for RC's is 'Muck Off'....link...

Just spray it on and leave for a few minutes then wash off with warm or cold water. I use warm water with the shower head in the bath, towel dry then spray with GT85 and leave......link....

Always re lube bearings and gears where required though.

well so far mines been running good no issues run bout 2 gallons through it so far, and runs great, so mine might not be the TYPICAL KM as you call it

Sorry if i upset you didnt mean to but i owned a brand new km 3.0 30.5,
and i had nothing but trouble alot of cnc parts were'nt machined properly
Diff housing, enclosed bell carrier ect which caused alot of binding but i got it soughted in the end and it ended up being a nice 5b:) (SOLD) now a happy hpi owner

honestly bud i could say the same about the hpi with all of the troubles i had with mine but i stuck with it despite all the razzing and now (although 50% of it is replaced with aftermarket parts) i have been able to run it for the past couple of days but still haven't put a total full tank through it at one time yet (to darn hot outside LOL)

What you have to think about is "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"

I have had Zen and CY clutches fail in normal conditions too.
J

one of my stock cy clutches failed on the first run had one wore to 1mm thickness while the other was untouched one side wouldnt swing outward like it was suppose to because of the factory assembly)

exactly my point i still believe i got one that slipped through QC but yet people will still flame on me for being honest about my personal baja and it is a genuine hpi . anyway i am just glad i got mine where i can finally run it even if it did end up costing an extra 2300.00

imho, no matter what brand you get, each has failure rates, and parts that arent 100% that will slip through. its a fact, and thats one thing that isnt goin away any time soon i don't believe. i spent alot on upgrades on mine too, spent 1500 through DDM i know of and more through ebay off tulare.

various reputeble vendors reccommended off here and a couple other forums as well, not that the stock parts had failed, they hadn't,i didnt do like most do and when part fails upgrade, i upgraded before parts failed, so if i have to,i can reuse old parts in a pinch if upgrades fail on me. still got a full set of rpm arms i haven't put on yet, cuz stockers are still good.

its inevitable, that once in awhile someone will get a lemon, like LR did with his, or someone that got a KM, or MG or whatever one they get, itd gonna happen, out of the thousands of bajas sold, a few will be lemons, only thing we can hope for, is we arent the unlucky ones that get the lemon.
