Blew a head gasket on Saturday and in my haste to have a run on Sunday I made a gasket out of some thin cardboard same thickness a stock. I used sealer on it as usual for good measure. I didn't get time to run it on Sunday to see how long or if it would last at all but I was wondering if any had done the same or heard of someone doing this to get them out of trouble until they could order a propper gasket.

it ll work for a bit until the cardboard absorbs its fill of oil/gas mix.

but i would be very cautious for the time you use it. it should work ok, but the inconsistancy of cardboard quality may have it start seperating in the weaker areas. thus cause an air leak in that location, which can burn up your motor in short order, or allow crap to get sucked into the motor while running.

ive done it in the old days (mid 70s) on my dirt bikes, but only for a few runs until i got a proper gasket.
