hey all im new to rc's havnt owned one since i was a kid but i have recently seen the 1/5 scale cars and love them got to have one but i don't want to sink alot of cash into one all at once since i will be the only person around my town that i know of that has one. is the king motors baja car a good beginers car or should i look else were i really like the simple engine design and regular gas. i use to work on small engines so the engine is great for me but im not sure about the whole buggy could someone point out some pros and cons of starting 5th vs smaller

Change your location for support. It will matter where you are for parts support on each model.

What is your budget?

The KM is a model that you will upgrade faster then the origional HPI. You will pay quite a bit less for it though. I have both and have put just as much money into both in upgrades and repairs. Each has its own issues. The biggest issue I had was the KM was the stock KM motor and carb set up on the 1st KM001 models. They were tough to tune. I swapped it out just a bit ago with a zen 26 for my son.

What model KM are you looking at?

Some will say buy used. I say skip the used model for your 1st model. There are so many issues that cannot be seen in a photo. I have torn many models down that run and look fine to find many issues under the looks.

cuz KM is a clone of hpi, hpi will run ya near a grand or better, the km will run ya 7 to 800 most cases, so you can pay less use the extra cash for upgrades, hpi parts mostly will fit right on km

i have looked everywere for one for that price and no luck around 500 is the best i have found i guess im goin to have to buy me one in a few weeks besides a pipe what should i look into ordering when i order the car i was thinking a extra set of rear tires, pipe and maybe a-arms since they seem to be the most likely broken parts. and about a gallon of klots 2stroke oil "ill probably play with it alot at first lol"

welcome pal, have you had a look at the shengqi clone i have heared they are as good as the km model and a bit cheaper, or what about the redcat 4 wheel drive model you can get over there, that looks the dogs gonads. enjoy mate

which car

i have looked at the shangqi they are a little cheaper but the shipping kills you and im not sure of the red cat
I'd go for the king motor bottom of the line, best value for money and maybe slightly better quality than the shengqi.
I have the km 2.0 with the alloy and 29 cc motor, but no.1 you don't realy need the alloy and no.2 you only need the 29cc motor to pull the weight of the alloy and steel rollcage.
God you would'nt believe the weight of that metal rollcage, for what it is.. good luck with what ever you decide on.
