Hi,

i have a maverick Blackout (rampage mt) and i have put in a Dog pile racing wildchild engine instead of the stock motor i have ironed out all the issues that the extra power/torque apart from one and i'm seeking your advice please.

the problem i have is the nuts come off the layshafts (middle and brake) now i have used loctite (blue) on them i have also changed the stock nuts to flanged locking nuts. it's a constant Pain in the A$$ i only get to have about 5/10 mins run time and pop goes a nut and off goes a metal gear cog.. i am really keen to get Demons 2 speed which will eliminate this problem but in the mean time i seek your advice on things that you might of done that have worked..

Any help would be appreciated..

Cheers

Ok cool Thank you, i'll get some in which is the stronger..?? apart from loctite has anyone else done anything different??

Green is "wicking" and can be applied to something already assembled. Same strength as red.

Red is permanent, but has to be put on before assembly.

You might also want to recheck the gear squares. Make sure the grub screws also have locktite. It sounds like the lay shaft might be stationary while the gear and square spin. This could work that nut off.

Cheers i will look but i'm sure that it's good as i started with a new steel layshaft and i dremeled it so the grub screws go through the brake square and go into the layshaft for better bite as i had the grub screws work loose on previous occassions and it's rather annoying. but i will go over it again and try with green loctite all round..

Roll on Demons two speed release.. LoL....

Like RCDAD said, check the squares. Then you could try double nutting the gears on with lock tite. Not sure if there's enough room for that. You could also try to find new lock nuts. The kind that are all metal. One side is liked crimped or stamped instead of having the nylon insert. They hold a lot better and these are the type used on real cars.

The nut only has to hold the gear against the square. I've never had one back off. I have only had the original lock nuts on mine. I never locktite those as I like to play around with gear choices. I still think the square was slipping.

Thank you for your input its appreciated.

I will certainly look into the brake square and see what's happening. It's weird that the A (clutch) layshaft is fine and that's a stock nut, the b&c nut also comes loose as well as the D.. I will look at getting some better lock nuts and buy some green loctite and have a re-build..

this is for an extreme case or a mod all together to loose the nut for toolless gear change,

but you can use a castle nut(or just a pin, silicon pipe and washers), and dremal a small hole at end of the lay shaft to fit a small body pin to lock the nut, it might come loose but will not move unless it breaks the body pin

or just lose the nut and use a washer/piping/washer/pin, you wanna squish the pipe a little to take out any play and apply a little pressure to keep tht gear on the square

if ur not using a nut use a tight body pin or it might ping off if its lose fit

Did a whole tank of fuel today without anything breaking... Woo Hoo 1st time in a while..

Now want to get advice on the B & C gear layshaft how do you guys hold the layshaft to stop it spinning when you are tighting up the nut..??

Throw a rag over the gear and hold it with some pliers. Or Grab the shaft from behind the gear plate with a wrench. Or you could lock them up by placing a gear between the C and D gears.

Nice one Deluge I knew someone would have a trick or two up their sleeves.. I'll give em a go..
