Well, I thought that Mooman's snapped rear diff cup was a freak thing until today. After a few small jumps (3-4 foot of air) I had only front wheel drive all of a sudden. Thought I snapped a drive pin or drive shaft. Nope it was one of the "heavy duty" diff cups from the upgrade kit. Now I am wondering why my left rear CVD snapped and now the left rear diff cup????? I also remember someone snapping a left rear MCD drive shaft. What's up with the left rear?
 
piranha21 and yolanda have snapped em too, I did a right rear though (looking from the back..left from front...arrgh which way) mine both broke after abrupt wheel stoppage due to unforeseen impacts on that wheel...they didn't shear til 10mins or so into the next outing. I got another upgrade kit for more spares just in case.


seems like the upgraded diff needs upgrading. i think everyone who's broken one is running a 28.5...hmmmm
 
When sitting in/on the vehicle the drivers side is left. I broke my "right" rear dif cup (stock). So everyone that broke them had a 28.5cc? Well.....that's it.....I'm going back to the 23cc jug....... ;)
 
Jailbird they are not "HEAVY DUTY" drive cups in the upgrade kit , the only difference is that that have a bigger hole. Thats it.
 
Yeah I got that part. They are actually weaker than the stocks to having the bigger hole for the larger pin. Yep, I am running the 28.5 as well. My breakages weren't from impacts, just landings and I don't land while on the throttle. The way the break looks it started as a spiral fracture so who knows. If only I had a CNC to make my own!
 
the pin also broke under extremly LIGHT coditions and broke evry 2 tanks with a stock mill.. in the snow.. when the pin breaks it also takes a gear with it. this was a good fast fix that redcat got right on. it took hpi 1 full year to fix their diff problem and it cost $80 every time it went out before they fixed it. i went thru 3 rtr diffs.. we got it easy
 
Well just like the baja , the rampage is going through it teething problem once the after market see what we keep breaking someone will step up and make us some heavy duty parts on time will tell.

no i haven't moo. i leave that stuff up to you guys..LOL.. i just went thru the stock pins. i did break a stock drive cup with a pair of vise-grips trying to get my "red loc-tite" rim off. but i don't think that counts.. :D

thats what i did moo now if everyone else does then we might get some love from the aftermarket
 
I haven't broken a Diff yet and I have the upgrade kit but I haven't installed it on my diffs. But I have broken the MCD dogbone so I guess the Redcat Cups are stronger than the MCD dogbones LOL!!!!
