g,day fellas
how ya all

hope you all had a great easter.
im glen from victoria,Australia.

well im looking at buying soon a 1/5-1/6 scale monster truck

here are the three i was looking at buying,

fg truck
mcd evo3 ultimate
or the rampage mt pro all alloy.

so what generally goes wrong and need fixing regurely on these trucks mainly, gears, transfer case boxes??

if you look after them are they reliable ??

iv got about $2000 u.s dollars budget so far.

im handy with tools,no problem and want to be able to drive any where.

are the hi tec servos brand ok and any good to use or is there better ??

what sort of speeds do you get out of them ??

can you use them in most terrain ??

what is the best/most popular hp pipe to buy and run ??, and is end bleed or centre bleed design pipe better ??

most likely i will buy the rampage mt pro all alloy, looks to be best value for money with all the goods ??

are they a pain to fix and work on at times ??

r.e engines,i have always been a zenoah fan, what are these cy chinese engines like that come in most of these trucks ,any good or crap ??

i would proberely upgrade to the zenoah g27orc 4 bolt engine though.

iv got a dx6 sprectrum digital stick radio here that im not using ,can i use this ??
i prefer sticks over wheel control any way!!

where is the best service and cheapest shops/place to buy these trucks from or off the internet??

i was looking at www.largescalerc.com

any help/thoughts/info would be really appreciated and great.

sorry for all the questions guys,im just learning.

* update, just did a google search and found the cheapest prices so far for a rampage mt pro all alloy with pipe for $1,519 @rc-tradingpost.com

any cheaper any where guys you know of ????
cheers

well everyy one is going to be biased ..... as i would be too .
i say FG all the way .

FG > out of the box id recomend the following .
alloy large and small engine mounts
alloy diff housing
stainless steel diff sleeve
8000 rpm clutch spring
some sort of tuned pipe [ i like the jetpro v2 truck pipe]
half decent radio gear

then replace something if/when u break it .

No replies....give us a chance to get out of bed dude! :D Having only owned an FG Monster Truck I would have to side with Jasrx's comments really, although the rampage looks to be nice piece of kit too. Just not feeling the MCD models.

hi fellas,
how are ya
thanks for the replies.
i was only stiring about not getting any replies so soon
yeah the mcd is nice, just to many $$$$ at moment hah.
cheers

I personally like the FG's also, as I have one too. The CY motors are pretty decent for the most part. Some had plating issues years ago, but all seems to be well now.

I have a CY GP290 motor and I haven't had any problems with it. It's well built.

Speeds for an FG Monster are in the 40's I've had mine for 3 years and I haven't broken anything but the diff. So the truck is as strong as a tank.. I am running a Jet-Pro silenced version 1, decent but the version 2 seems like a better design.

I haven't owned any other largescales so I cannot comment about them. The Redcat looks really cool, but a 40 pound truck with a little 23cc and a weedwacker exhaust can seems a bit weak to me... Only my opinion.. Perfect candidate to build the piss out of though!

Trip..

I have a FG MB Pro, Redcat Rampage MT, and I had a MCD MT but still own a MCD Baja 1000. I would recommend Redcat but not the Pro, they are too heavy. The FG's are a great basher too with the proper upgrades they are indestructible. For the Ultimate MCD MT, you don't have the money in your budget.

hi guys
how are ya
thanks for your replies.
isnt the fg a 2 wd though ??
is 2 wd just as much fun as 4 wd though ??
cheers
glen

hi mate
how are ya.
thanks for your reply and reccomended list.
cheers
glen

FG's are all 2wd aside from the 4x4 models of course, but a 2wd will go just about anywhere and they are faster, in general, than their 4wd counterparts. 2wd equals wheelies, if you are into that sort of thing. Nothing can throw the dirt like a 2wd!!

Trip..

hi trip
how are ya
interesting to hear the 2 wd basically go most places, cool.
yeah i never though about the wheelie idea.
i will keep this all in mind
cheers
