I took a 2 hour drive this morning to the big city of Boise to toss the Mrs. out at the airport and went to Hobbytown. The place has every 10th scale and parts but when I asked the dude where is the 5th scale goods I received the deer in the headlight look. All they had was one set of front proline tires,no wheels and a one 5B in a box....Screw it give me a bottle of 45wt shock oil and I'm out.

Are we really in a whole other league with our gassers

LMAO yes it greatly depends on the area also on the west coast there is 5th scale everything everywhere but here in the south at the largest hobby store there will only be a couple of things for the 5th scale.

I was wondering how available supplies would be in Atlanta,I say because this is going to be my last year in Idaho and GA is my destination of choice

It's the same here in spud land we are so rural that you have to drive 130 miles to get to the closest hobby shop

hobby town green bay

hobby town up here in green bay sucks too,,, they barely carry any 1/8th scale, and you mention 1/5th scale,,, and world comes to end,,,,, they have tygon fuel line,, due to having plane parts, about it,,,, also hobby shops are hurting up here, one i use to go to now, been open for 10 years,, northern hobbies,, is going out of business,,, other day i went in bought a cpl dollars in bolts at hobbytown ,,,, they tried to charge me double or more than the cost of package,, four dollars for a dollar fifty package of bolts,, if i hadn't noticed,, they wouldnt have said anything,, they refunded me difference, but i doubt they change the prices in there computers,,, so next person will get ripped off,,,not sure going to one in green bay anymore,,,,,,,,guess will have to continue to get all my parts online now,,,,,,

That's too bad.. Sorry to hear that.

As for inventory they are only going to carry what sells in the area. I'm sure they would love to see people com'n in to buy 5th scale product every day.

hobby town is 75 miles one way from me. I guess i am lucky. They are really nice people there. Only thing they have for hard parts is just a few HPI parts- 15 dollar spark plug- gotta be kidding me!! They do have quite a lot of stuff that can be used - shock oil-diff oil- electronics- ect- There are massive people with the little electrics- Big club too- Race indoors in the winter- They also have 2 outdoor tracks.- !/4 scale tri-oval, and a nice dirt track for the electrics- little nitro r-c-s. I wanted to do the right thing- so i asked -- if i put turf tires on the 1/5 cars- and promise to not hammer the throttle- could i run on the outdoor track?- Answer-- NO. I would like to check out the 1/4 scale track--thats ok - Yea, check out -tricitiesrc.com. There are a bunch of people. Yea, every time i go to the hobby shop- i enter a drawing to win a electric car- Might as well try!!

If you have a plane, helli or 10th scale you will be well covered at hobbytown. I was just bummed that they had almost nothing for gasers. It makes a person wonder how many 5th scales are out there under the radar because of online shopping for parts.

agree with you. there are 1/5 ths onder the radar in kennnewick. HPI guys. The shop wanted me to bring the cars there and display them- I will do this soon- the cat-and the nu-tec. This shop is smart enough to know that this could wery well be to there advantage- spark intrest with people coming and going outta the shop- The hot item there now are drones- 4 engine- cameras- never saw one before- they were 2 1/2 feet across!! little ones too- heck, there were good looking chicks- not all weirded up with tramp stamps on there skin- clean pretty women that are into these drones-buying-flying these drones- Refreshing to see this-

my LHS don't sell gassers either, i got my 5BSS through them last year only because they are a tower hobbies dealer

The market is smaller for the 5th scale. There is not as many of us willing to spend what we do on our RCs. I know I would never go back. I haven't ran my 8th scales in years. Even my kids don't want to touch them. They want the ones daddy has. LOL

i still have my savage x and my wife and i own nitro speed boats and nitro air boats

but i got got rid of my other nitros.

There is no Hobbytown's up my way.

There's two hobby shops though ones 45 minutes away the other is at least 20. Both mom & pop stores.

I like the LHS that is closer better the guy that runs it knows his stuff, and it a pretty nice guy to boot. BUT he doesn't have much in parts let alone 1/5th scale.

The LHS that is 45 minutes away it's hit or miss. They do have some 1/5th but I haven't been in there lately to see what they are carrying. The staff is pretty good again they have been hit or miss as well. Lately it's been pretty good but I've been sold a am Rx for an fm Tx by them before.

I haven't even started my nitro's since I have gotten my MT. It's like going from brain surgery to splinter removal.

1/5 is not the bad word to say. Once mention of the name Redcat and they give you a rude look and say they can't help you and walk away. It's pretty rediculouse. Every darn near every hobby shop in the Houston area turns away Redcat car owners and refuse to work on them. We are one of 2 hobby shops that will work on them in the Houston area.

Here in Oregon same thing mention redcat and the shops turn into a holes one guy told my I was crazy for buying a redcat. I reminded I was a customer and that he had a job because of people like me. Then the manager came over told him the same thing lol. Needless to say I walked away without giving them a dime for anything. But then I found xtreme toyz in clackamas town center only sop in oregon to carry redcat

yea, i am south of pendleton. 15 miles. 75 miles oneway to kennewicks hobby shop. they are nice people there- but the 1 guy thats into 5th scale is a hpi guy- never says anything bad about other brands of 5th scale- but- you can just tell- ya know? - oh well-- The mark up on the hpi stuff - $14.95 spark plug? I really doubt the shop has much say in this- if it was left up to the owner this over priced example would be more inline. The other stuff is about the same as online buying.- Ya know- thing thats cool bout hanging around a hobby shop for a while is checking out the parents with there kids- buying those rubber band powered balsa wood airplanes- mousetrap powered cars- things a kid needs to assemble on his own. Yea, nothing wrong with stick and ball sports- team type stuff- each has its place and time.
