Hole in piston. Lean or low octane?

OK good to know. I'll swap out the isolator when I rebuild. Do you advise simply going with a stock replacement or something aftermarket?

Will be sure to get it good and rich next go around. Still don't have an ear for tuning since this hour of run time was most of the run time I've ever gotten out of this truck
Buy an aluminum aftermarket piece. Not the DDM version. OBR unit is good to go.

Alright so current plan is a build from scratch, new bearings, seals, crank, top end, plus an OBR carb insulator and a graduated cylinder for oil measuring... then tune it nice and rich. Also going to pick up some of those adjustable engine mounts

Any other quality of life mods or accessories y'all would recommend for a newbie with a mostly stock truck?

Use ethanol free fuel. If not available at a pump, try and buy the canned fuel. It is expensive but has a 5 year shelf life. I use VP racing 94 or Sunoco 95. The 4 cycle version. Both are formulated for small engines. I buyna 5 gallon can and mix the whole thing and fill a gallon can from it.

I can get ethanol free here, but only as race gas. I know they have 100 octane, maybe 95 as well.

If you have to buy that, go 95.

The 94 and 95 octane canned small engine fuel is different than pump 94-95. It doesn't hurt performance. It has different burn characteristics than a comparable pump gas of the same octane.

If you have a Sunoco station by you they usually have a locked fuel storage unit you can buy the 5 gallon cans from. Both of ours sell the 4 stroke Optima 95 small engine fuel.

That's good to know, I'm sure there's a powersports shop or something around here that sells higher octane stuff by the can

We have a motorsports place 6 miles away thats a VP dealer. They can get me the VP94 small engine fuel but, I have a nephew with a small engine shop and he gets me the VP at cost.

Maybe a little port work and kick a few degrees of timing into it. You got to start somewhere.
Without a doubt there is power to be found.
