Why would it need to breath, just the Air filter would need to breath. This is more for keeping dirt out of the pull starter.

Air goes IN at the Pull start and blows by the Cyl to keep it cool

it is a very thin bandana....just as thin as a real outerwears...plenty of air should flow throung it..

I don't see why the bandana wouldn't work. I have a welding rag with little Bud Light logos all over it. I think I'm gonna make me a custom pullstart cover too.


Also, the flywheel is basically a big vacuum that sucks air through the bottom of the crankcase/pullstart and up over your engine. Clog the crankcase and pullstart and you'll fry the engine.

I used a 33 cent pair of black panty hose from walmart and superglue and mine works great. Felt kinda akward at the check out but it works. I would have to say that bandana material would be a bit thick for running around here. Just watch that you're not getting too hot and all should be fine.
