Has anyone tried a chain drive?

...Just thinking it may give more gear ratio options?

Sort of like the belt drive.

Extend the d shaft, replace the b-c shaft with a idler/tensioner ?

Maybe too noisy?

I would say stick with belt drive its lighter and will spool up faster. Different ratios should be available soon

honestly, with chain drives unless they're very well engineered and kept clean they're usually a power loss to belts just because a belt is so tolerant to flex and crud whereas a chain will get thick with grit, rub and flail around wasting power

belts are also more progressive providing smoother power

you'd probably be better off with the usual stroke/bore/pipe/filter/carb mods if you want more ponys
