so, my 1:5 FS Racing truck, has a very poorly fitting petrol cap.

so poor, that if the truck lands on its roof, it then proceeds to empty the petrol tank all over itself.

it has a rubber seal, but its pretty poor.

does anyone have any suggestions!?!?

thankyou.

You've already diagnosed the problem so try a new cap & seal and not just the seal. Also inspect the tank around where the cap screws on to make sure there are no hairline cracks in the joint of the tank. Is the grommet where the fuel lines enter the tank nicely sealed & in good condition?

Alternatively get a new tank, cap & seal so that you know they are all compatible. A fuel leak onto a hot engine would be a disaster :badair:

1. Make sure that there are not casting defects in the tank thread contact surface or inside the cap. Both contact surfaces should be smooth.
2. Make sure that the seal fits inside the cap, if it doesn't fit properly, try to find an Oring that will fit. Measure the diameter, get it from a local supplier or in the web.
3. If you are using race gas, it may cause some synthetic rubbers to expand.

id do what others have suggested dude, get a new cap or tank, if your tank aint getting an air tight fit thenthis will also effect the performance as air will be getting into the tank which will cripple the flow of fuel to your carb especially when your wide open :(

depends on the type of tank, some offroads have internal cap and others external
From experience I would suggest just getting a new tank, they come up cheap on ebay.

Believe you me , i know these cars inside out .
I've worked on them for the past 2 years just get your self the mcd petrol cap and your worries will be over.
tip make sure you get mcd cap with a vent hole in it.

All advice seems spot on, as usual here.
Early on after I bought my FG MT, I got an alloy screw cap - correct one for it.
I transferred the seal, etc., and THOUGHT I'd taken care to locate the thread before screwing on - I hadn't, and had obviously cross threaded it. It was leaking. Every time I had to lift it up, tilt it, etc., and petrol was in, it leaked.
I got a new tank, and (with care!!) problem is 100% solved. I can tip it as I like when working and no problem.

As they all say, best play very safe. Last thing you want is a petrol fire to destroy your pride and joy.
Good luck and let's hope you get it sorted ASAP.
Alan.

if it's a solo tank you don't need a cap with a breather because the tank has breather lines. I plug those with a bolt when I bring it in the house..

doh it says FS not FG
