How do I get off spur gear?

Stripped them today, I need to get off big spur gear in middle. It spins. Looks like I have to secure it from back to get it off. What r u guys using?

I use needle nose pliers, but you can use a metric open end wrench, I think its 8mm?? Not really sure.

Yes it is 8mm on the back side to get it off.

steel ones are good, plastic will last longer without the cover,lol.

Hold back with 8 mm or 5/16 wrench,remove tthe nut with 10mm wrench.all bolt,nut for this truck use metric only.

do you thread lock the nut on re-assembly? or does that make it worse the next time around?

I always used a little. Those nylon nuts wear out eventually. Nothing is worse than having your gear come loose and go cockeyed and strip because you didn't take a second or two to dab on some locktite. I've seen $90 worth of pinion/spur gear explode on an MCD because of this. Also, there is a chance to wop your bearing and bearing hole out.
