How to open airfilter of MT?

The front is just a cap like Tupperware container. Pop it off and remove the filter element the base stays in place. Should be two oiled elements with a screen in between. There is also a smaller screen in the back that's to keep the elment from suckling in to the carb. Hope you went over the truck and threadlocked because the factory doesn't do it well. I have a 3000 dollar losi that sits mostly since I got this truck it's fun but you can't neglect it if you want it to perform well.

I will open air filter. Didnt tried it. It appears it requires to rotate to open. Upon pulling outside it still dosent seems poping out. Yes the foam thing did came out but the black kind of cover didnt.
 
To this day I don't know how to open the new style filter (with the metal mesh in front of the filters) but I think I damaged my stock intake trying to take it off (I developed an air leak shortly after pulling really hard on that filter). Do what Rob said, go for a Baja filter with a metal inclined stack and you won't have to worry about this anymore.
