hi,jsut wanted to get some ideas on how you guys clean / prepare your baja for international flight?

I am afraid that gasoline odor would be a reason for airport personnel to stop the baja from climbing aboard.....

thanks.

i have a new gas tank already.....just needed to remove as much as possible gas odor from carbs and exhaust and possibly from engine? any special tricks to do this bychance?

run it right out of fuel, take the fuel tank out and clean it right out, and block the vent hose. id also clean the pipe right out to get the oil residue/smell out. id also take the batteries out of the radio and car and store them seperatly.

Carb, pipe and engine hmmm not sure..

Could try smelly bags ? (can be used in bins to
stop smells) Pop your carb, pipe and motor in
three bags and that should stop the gas smell.

I remember somebody else asking about taking his 5th on a flight to the middle east. I will try to find the thread :detective:

If you tape up / bung any open fuel lines, carb & engine ports (don't know how you are transporting it??) then it will help stop the smells coming out.

i will put her in a luggage/baggage for check in in the check in counter.......actually i am coming out from middle east going to philippines......

Make sure you get to the airport early & speak to the check in staff then if there are any problems you have time to sort it rather than missing your flight or dumping the baja!

yes,i will try to be early in the terminal, you know, just in case something came up,atleast i can still salvage the baja back to our place rather than dumping it or missing the plane.... anyway, wish me luck so as to bring my baja to our country......thanks.

Sorry to put you down but a used combustion engine is considered a HAZMAT (hazardous material) in aviation. If the engine even LOOKS used then there's NO WAY they will let that enter the airplane. If you have a NEW engine and that new gas tank then they will let it enter. Otherwise not. And they will anyway x-ray your bag.

Send your car beforehand and do a hazmat-clearance for that if you want to transport it as it is. There are usually several companies around airports to do the clearance. It costs around 150-200 Euros or US dollars.

anybody here got an experience coming out of doha airport with their baja?

I have brought here this same baja from philippines, used it in the philippines before, and i got no issues encoutnered from manila international airport?

any thoughts about doha airport?

Speak to your airline easy quick and correct answer from them, they may have alternatives if it is an issue. certain parts of the world are more strict/observant than others...if you can get flamable proof alchohols into cargo a drained and clean Rc car should be Ok but rather than asking us ask your airline. Please!

Who are you flying with?

Justin

RCX Show.. Well they have shipped baja's from all round
the world just to get there baja at RCX!

So the engine and tank would be new and they got there
baja's on a plane ? So why cant dis guy ?

As JP Blue said, ask your airline / travel agent.
Perhaps they'll request an early arrival and a 'representative' has to be present to inspect it.

Obviously since 9-11, and ongoing, airport security has become hugely stricter than previously.

How do the F1 teams ship their cars, certainly OUT of venues, as they've DEFO had used engines in them? !!

In certain situations, there may be a security check, and the final decision will be left to the specific pilot of your flight.

Good luck anyway.

Al.

They are checked as hazmat. A used combustion engine is allowed into the plane after hazmat clearance like I said before. But a hazmat clearance is not done at the airport at least for individual persons. F1 teams and big companies are a bit different. These clearances are made by accredited companies holding aviation licenses to perform that work.

I have done this myself before and this is the situation at least in Europe and USA. Don't know about Phillies.

I was only encouraging nolivy to prepare for that situation well before he goes to the airport with the car as it is not a pleasant situation when they say "no, that thing is not allowed into the plane" and your airplane leaves in 2 hours. What can you do then? Well mail it back to your home address with the postal services at the airport or give it back to the person there to see you off.

noli you are being a bit of an ass trying to dodge rules and regs,to safe guard other people.......this is not a game, with the airports always on alert for pillocks trying to blow up there planes.............i even had a brand new Zippo lighter in its box taken off me at L.A airport a couple years back.....but they did let me through with an 1/8th scale losi lst
