Was wondering if I should buy new or used? I want a 5t but so many people are selling clones out there how can you tell the difference especially when buying on ebay

On eBay check there feedback and send them a message asking them if they are HPI or clone. If they tell you they are genuine HPI and when you get it are not then you have a good case with Pay Pal and eBay against them. All so you can post here so others can take a look at it. All so some where on here is a thread about telling the difference between clones and HPI.

k I found one brand new at a hobby shop thats brand new for $1,100.00 is that a good price? I also found one from a guy who say's that it has never been run or had gas in it and has some turtle racing mods. his price is 1,400.00 and another guy has one that his son only ran 8 tanks through the bottom is scratched up a little but he says its in good condition he wants $750.00 are any of these good deals?

We are talking bout the 5T correct. The reason I ask is the 5T has been replaced with the 5SC. Not a whole lot of difference between the two. You can get a RTR 5SC from DDM with discount coupon for just over $1,100. Not sure if it qualifies for free shipping.

The one for $1,400 what are all the up grades on it? The second up grade I all ways recommend is the turtle complete clutch system. On any of them I would give a counter offer just to see if they will accept it. If they are 5T tell them they are a discontinued model.

The first and most important up grade I fell is mandatory on a 25 to 40 pound RC vehicle is a remote kill switch. If you have a runaway with a RC vehicle this heavy it is a BIG liability not counting the damage to your RC vehicle. Problem is there is not any remote kill switch that works with a stock HPI radio. So this means you need to get a better radio. Does any of the ones you mentioned have other then stock radio?

What experience do you have with RC vehicles if any? I do not want to scare you away but large scale RC is much more expensive then smaller scales. I own and have run both.

Ok the one for 1400 has the turtle racing clutch thing I don't believe it has an upgraded remote I had traxxes nitrogen trucks and sold them because they were a pain in the a$$ I want a 1/5 scale 5t I don't like the look of the 5 sc

I even called Hpi racing and asked about the difference between the 5t and 5sc and they are not the same. The wheels are different the suspention is different as well as the width and the height the plastic body is different to I really like the the aggressive look and style of the 5t the 5sc just looks wimpy

they are the same! yeah the wheels are different, the suspension is the same
as the SS and the 5T, (hpi dude don't have a clue) its pretty much the same!
there is no big differents between the two....

About the only differences between the 5t and the 5sc are
Clip less front hubs (you can modify the 5t ones to be clip less)
heavy duty dog bones
up dated rear hubs

The rest pretty much just cosmetic

So if I wanted to buy a 5sc. What would I need to male it a 5t. And why ate alot of people selling there just bought 5sc. Trucks. Are there problems with them?

no there are no problems with them. In fact they improved a couple things as mentioned. The better dog bones and hubs. The Hubs on the 5T are a joke. I bought the 5sc ones last time and said good riddens to the the piece of crap idea of a clip hub.

Have you seen both in person? There really is no difference. The body is wider and covers the back tires. The front bumper is different.

If you get the 5sc and drive it for one summer you will have to replace the body after and probably the front bumper...and then bam you have your 5T.

If you are in the used market for a baja it can be hard to tell if you are getting the genuine article or not.

Please only use this as a rough guide and if you are unsure the best thing to do is send somebody on here who you trust will give you the right reply a PM with some pics of the buggy you are interested in. It can become harder when people start upgrading things, still somebody who knows the differences will always spot something.

This is only to be used as a quick checklist, if you are unsure you should defineatly ask somebody else to check it for you.

HPI Racing Branding - The HPI logo's are missing. Spur gear cover, wheels, Tyres, air filter end, radio box, fuel cap.

Electrics Branding - Servo's will have HPI branding, Throttle, steering and reciever/radio.

Engines - HPI's come with Fuelie engines, 23cc and 26cc only. Pull start sticker, and caution stickers are on the engine casings.

Ball ends - Are black, HPI are grey.

Fuel line - HPI has 1 black line and 1 yellow.

Plastics - HPI is rather dull and doesn't stand out that much, clones are glossy and shiney.

Shock Collars - Have vertical lines, clones have a cross pattern.

Radio Box - Doesn't have 'HPIracing' or 'RX Charge' (Above charging plug) logo's, Steering servo mounts can differ and there isn't a lug placement for the radio box to fit into the chassis.

All you need to know.
J;)
