I've been looking for some alloy shocks other than the FG alloy ones which are really expensive for what you get. I've owned a Rampage in the past which can use HPI Baja shock parts (Phatdad/DS shafts) since they are almost identical. Anyways, I ordered two sets of Rampage front shocks and cut the shock bodies at the top by 17mm. I then cut the shafts 17mm and rethreaded the ends. I lost alot of threads to adjust preload collars but that will get fixed when my 20mm x 1mm die comes in. Anyways, the shocks work great and I now have the capability of running Phatdad/Dark Soul 6mm shafts, GH piggybacks, HPI Springs, Ramtech Springs, or even Threshhold remote rezzies with my FG. Here's some pics.

What is pictured is stock Rampage front shocks (cut down by 17mm) with Ramtech 5B springs (5 coils cut off). Soon as my order comes in from DDM I'll be running Phatdad 6mm shafts, HPI VVC inserts, and GH piggybacks on a FG :).

They fit pretty good. Good job with the threading and cutting. Those shocks weren't bad. And with the Phatdad shafts and some nuts they were rock solid. FG is a way lighter buggy too

Mr Unlimited, those aren't the GPM shocks. BTB did a review on those a long while back. I asked about those very shocks. The GPM are huge an 5mm shafts

Thanks man, I read the revie of BTB and I hope that I receive some improved ones otherwise I think I have to modify them with better seals etc. No hard deal.

Thanks guys. I ran today and tried to get as much jump time as possible trying to break the 4mm's but they held up so far. I'll get some pics up when I slap on the GH piggybacks for the Baja. I ran them on the Rampage and they were a good upgrade for such a cheap price.

Also, I've been thinking about sticking in some 6mm's w/ VVC's but that might be overkill with such a short shock on a light car. I think I'll test the 4mm's and move to the Phatdad 4.8mm's if they don't hold under extreme conditions. Worst case I'll run the 6mm's but I doubt I'd have too. The Phatdad 4.8mm's held up great on the Rampage and that sucker is a heavy beast too.
