I want to make this:

Turn into this:

Although I wish the 911 was a 928 instead!
This is also an awesome body.

I want to be able to switch it back and forth as I see fit. I am hoping I can keep the motor standing up like this..

These pics were borrowed err stolen from other members on here... (Thanks!) Just think, if the pictures sucked, I wouldn't have used them! ;)

I know I will have to lose the rollbar and I will have to get some tires and wheels.. I know I am going to have to get side extensions and a pipe, but I am thinking it may be similar to a Leopard?

I'm sure it has been done, but has anyone here tried it? A GT2 with a set of spikes for a rally look, I think it would be cool.

Think FG Pajero, now ditch the Pajero body and toss on a GT2 body. (I prefer the GT2, as the GT3 isn't really my tastes.)

I have a straight chassis like an on road, it's not tapered like the FG's

My Chassis has a front kick-up, so I know the body will sit higher. I haven't ruled out flattening the chassis plate? I am not going to be racing this or trying to compete with anyone. This is strictly for me to have fun and blast around parking lots, I don't want it to be a typical touring car with the body a 1/16 inch of the street. I would like a good 1/2-3/4 clearance (or more) because the parking lots around here are junk.

I still need to be able to change the tires and a few body mounts to be able to toss on the buggy body so I can still play in the dirt. I want a dual purpose vehicle. Remember the old "Dual Sport" versions of the RC 10? That's what I am thinking about.

I gave up on the racing idea for the buggy, because the land I was looking at was horrible for taxes, so I am just going to go back to destroying baseball diamonds and parking lots. So I really do need a vehicle that I can do both with..

I still think a GT2 Rally, would be Chang's Wang! I am planning on hogging the wheelwells out of the Porsche body so I can stuff in a set of spikes.

So that is my plan, now I need to figure out how to do it.

This is the idea, but with bigger tires and more rugged manliness...

This is a beautiful RUF, but not my style...

I like the 80's 911's but those bodies are too hard to find, so I am gonna have to go with a GT2 style.

Mud, dirt and knobbies are the thoughts floppin around in my head...

So here is a list of Bodies I have found that I have an interest in. I am stuck with the Porsche Gt2/Gt3, the McLaren, Viper or the Ferrari, but I would feel too guilty cutting up a Ferrari! Plus I don't wanna blow 400 bucks on a body. OK Here is what I have come up with...

Everything will be in metric to make it easier for everyone.

My Buggy Specs. These are all measured with a tape measure, so they may be off a touch here and there.
Length= 711 front bumper to rear wing.
W/B =480
Minimum height= 216 from bottom of chassis plate to top of spark plug, vertical motor position.
Width=394 from the outside of my wheels.

Short Porsche GT2
Length= 855 Much longer than my buggy, but OK.
W/B =465 15mm is 7.5 per wheel, that can easily be trimmed.
Height= 250 Lots of extra room there, if it's in the correct spot. Looking at the orange one above there should be enough room
Width= 405 11mm is 5.5 per wheel, I think I can come up with washers or wheel squares to push out the wheels.

Medium Viper
Length= 910 Sucker sure is long!
W/B=512 32mm is 16mm per wheel, that's too much.
Height=235 Lots of room there too.
Width=400 Perfect.

Medium Porsche GT3 RSR 2.0
Length=890
W/B=510 30mm is 15 per wheel, that's a bit too much
Height=240 Lots of clearance
Width=405 11mm is 5.5 per wheel, I think I can come up with washers or wheel squares to push out the wheels.

The Mclaren long, is Way too long of a wheelbase...

It looks to me that the GT2 is going to be the best choice for my application, which is good, because that is the body I wanted anyway... It looks like I can keep my motor mounted the way it is now, and all I am going to need is a set of body mounts and some tires and wheels that are a little closer to the touring car in size. I think my buggy tires may be a bit too big, I don't want this to look like some hick took the Sawz-All to the fenders... I am going to need a bumper and bumper mounts. I would like to make a side mount using Velcro, I've seen that and it looks easy and clean. It must look decent, but different...

Anything I missed?

Thanks for the help.
Trip..

To the guys from whom I swiped pics, Thanks again!

HaHa Yeah, me too!

I am pretty sure I am going to have to make most of the parts. I don't think there is a high demand for such a swap. I am sure I can make anything I am going to need at work. One of the perks of being a machinist I guess.

Will be good when its finished. I like the Paris Dakar 959  Im a proper Porsche nut and have promised myself I will own 1 someday :D

good luck trip. I've typed a ton of info allready on 5thscale so going to watch and see if anyone offers anything different over here. I still think it's be easier to get a porsche chassis and just mod the buggy body to fit that rather than hack a porsche to work here. if you could find a boddy without wheel arches it'd be different but changing wheelbase so drastic you will have a wheel half on an arch.... front and back of a wheel will stick out different amounts and will look like the sawsall analogy.

You think 7.5 mm per wheel is too much to cut out? That's only 3.75mm for the font and back of each wheel arch. I am going to have to open them at least that much or more to clear the Semi wheels like what's in your Avatar.

Too hillbilly-ish? I am asking your opinion because you have more experience with on road than anyone I know.

I used the MT squares when I put on the cable brakes and that pushed the front wheels out 1/4 inch per wheel. Now I have 15 1/2' front and 16 1/4" rear. (394mm front 413mm rear) the rear wheels are .750" wider than the fronts, but alot closer than what it was... The GT2 body itself appears to be wider in the rear, I know the 1:1 car is.

I think the only thing I can do is get the body and go from there. If I have to do a body lift to clear the tires I guess that's what I'll have to do, or if I need a different chassis, then I guess I need a new chassis!

I'm not that artistic:lol: I could paint a fiberglass body, but no way could I make one!

I just really have a thing for that GT2 body, I don't know why? I never even liked the frog eyed 911 body style up until about a month ago... I was always a 928 fan.

This is a 928

These are pics of my old 85.5 S2 with an S4 rear wing and Cup wheels. It was a rare car, only 400 were built

you will have to use the smallest wheel squares, then cut out the difference of the wheelbase then cut out more to make up for the larger wheel size. so add all that up and it will be off. it's a pain to be sure, but I have a body I bought for one car that wouldn't fit no matter what I did unless I made it brushless. so I ended up buying a chassis and have been stockpiling parts to build a car out of it, all based around a body I paid $220 for. and then I bought my old vw back just before christmas, ordered the 4wd conversion nad had to hack and cut just to fit that one the 4wd and truth is I am not too happy with the end result. my tub got hacked (read tossed $150 out) and hacked the back end off my body. I was considering fibreglassing fenders back in but first tap, which will happen for sure (we hit each other all the time, it happens) it would break. so I live with the look...

I'd just hate to see you cut up a nice body and wreck it nd waste money...
you could try hitting the value villages and salvation armies and find a plastic body... you have a shop vac. a vac form table is so easy to make it's silly.

or you make yourself a porsche and hack the roller skate up to fit that and you will be good to go. don't want to dampen the projects as I am one to experiment, but I have also wasted a lot of money too trying crap out. just trying to save you some money.

Well saving money is always a good thing.

I thought about making a vacuum former, but it would have to be pretty big! Plus i don't have a body to use as a template. There is NO way I could carve one up out of wood or something! Not that gifted, well I'm gifted in that department, wink wink, but not in the carving department

I think I just may have to buy a cheap smartech on road and find a body to fit it. I don't want a "race car" or to be competitive with the worlds best and flying to Germany to kick ass over there, I just wanted something to have fun and slide around on the parking lots.

This is the reason I started this thread, to get ideas and to see if this is possible. It sounds like it is possible, but too expensive to achieve.

I guess I am off to find a janky racer! Yay!
