Ok so as some of you know ive just replaced a piston ring in my otherwise stock G260.

The bottom end has done roughly 35 tanks and its the original cylinder. This is the second piston ring ive replaced in it.

For the first time I used gasket sealant, ive replaced base gasket as well as the two teflon gaskets on inlet side.

It started up fine, at factory carby setting it wanted to stall so had to lean off the LS a fair bit. I ran it for maybe ten mins and here's my problem. After giving it a squirt the idle is really high and it take a good 60 seconds to settle down.

Ive played with the needles and the idle screw, i get it to where I want but after a quick squirt its back high again and only if i leave the throttle it starts to settle back down after 60 seconds if not longer.

What could be causing this?

Hi yes throttle linkages are working as intended, its retuning to the idle screw and no sticking, i had a long look at the throttle linkages last night before I started it.

the return line is kinked a little, could that cause the problem?

my clunk line is also stretched, i cut it by mistake a little short and now its tight with no slack in it, don't know if that could affect it as well.

spray some wd40 around the carb to see if it has an air leak... we had a big problem with my bud's vw. the leak was at the adjustment screws. the o rings had worn out from adjusting the carb. if you've done that much driving and have adjusted the carb a few times, I would look there

thanks pipe ill give that a try. there's a gasket between the air filter housing and the carby that might be a bit suspect so you may have it, ill give it a try tommorow and let you guys know.

ok bit of an update, couldnt get online over the weekend much.

took the baja out on satuday and the idle problem seems to have fixed itself??? but new problem is as soon as the engine gets some warmth into it it looses all mid and top end so im thinking no solution but a new top end.

now question is what top end and who has them in stock!

just finished changing the clutch and I think i may have found a part of the problem, one one of the shoes half the lining has come off, so put the new shoes on, also the spring looks like it has lost some tension as it was way too easy to put it back on so I put a new HPI one I had as a spare.

Also i checked any play in the crank and there is about 1-1.5 mm up and down movement.

im going to post some pics up when I get to work tommorow of the clutch and carby, base gasket which seems to be quite wet, strange considering I just replaced all gaskets and used sealant for the base gasket.

ive got a strong feeling that i may have warped the crankcase by overtighteneing the bolts previously, which may be why the last 4 gaskets ive put on have leaked almost straight away.

So here's my dilema, i can either buy a top end kit $75, crank seals and bearings and all gaskets, haven't priced it up but shipped im guessing approx $120 for everything.

I can get a brand new CY 4 bolt minus clutch and carb for a fraction over $200 so should I just buy the CY instead of trying to fix the G260 and hope the crankcase isnt warped in which case ill need to buy a new crankcase which will put the bill over the cost of a new CY anyway?

What do we think? Im swaying towards a new engine personally but up for suggestions. Ive always prefered zenoah's but like the sound of a four bolt :D but cant afford a G270 right now :(

Get a rovan 36mm top end bud....the quality for the price is amazing...
Don't ditch the case.....i'll block it for ya...remember what I did with your other zen case!!!

I still have a crank for you if you want...

thanks ross, im not going to throw out the zen, im still swaying towards buying the CY 4 bolt though and rebuild this slowly over time so I can learn more about it.

my concern is if I spend the $100+ to rebuild this and it doesn't fix my problem then im going to have to throw more money in which case it will be close to if not more than a complete engine, and a 4 bolt engine at that!

what should I do???

here's some pics of what I found while working on it last night, ive changed to new zen clutch shoes and a new HPI spring coz that blue one was stretched.

concered about the wetness around the base gasket as its done one tank and i used gasket sealant! also the amount of dirt on carbie is suggesting there's a leak but again ive used all new teflon gaskets!

original colour, no blueness to it, what makes you think it was overheating?

Thats the original shoes that came with the FG, done over 35 tanks so no complaints from me!

after more thought ive decided to purcahse a new CY 4 bolt 26cc and rebuild the zen slowly when money permits.

want to thank everyone for their help and ross as always for his generosity.

Smart decision. Its hard but after some long use on our little motors, as like in your case, its time to bury it and start a new...;) If your fears would be correct on the case it would out cost a new motor trying to rebuild.

exactly my way of thinking BTB, plus the down time kills me, i pay everything express post and have a fair few spares coz I want it working when I want to use it so the time to build, put back together and then find its still not right would cause me to kick myself quite hard.

ive ordered the CY 4 bolt, now to just wait, the G260 still runs so ill use it until either the new CY comes or till it completely dies, which every first LOL.
