Hi,

I have a shengqi monstertruck and have had quite a few problems with It suCh as bad shoCks bad servoes and broken steering nuckles and rear suspension arms but that was in extreme cold (snow)Anyway I was wondering what I should do. I have about 350 euro to spare and I was wondering what I should do eithir upgrade the rc car I have at the moment or buy a hpi baja with the money that I have and sell the shengqi aswell. Personally I would love a hpi baja but I can't quite justify paying nearly 1000 euro on a radio controll car. Or is I'd alright to buy a used hpi and are there any common problembs with them that I should look out for if I do end up buying a used one. Can someone please Advise me on what to do.

Thanks
Toby

I'd be tempted to either upgrade the shengqi with decent HPI parts, or buy a good used HPI and replace any damaged parts on that with your current shengqi parts. I don't think that you'll get much largescale car for e350 though.

Unfortunately the problem with the clones is cheaper materials, and as you found out, thease aren't as durable as the more expensive ones (HPI etc use filled nylon for plastic parts, which is more durable than plain nylon, but more expensive as it wears out the moulds faster). Any weakness in the rig wil be amplified in the cold (I have had the same problem in a small crash with my 1:10 nitro car)

Get shut os the Shengqi and use the money off that and the 350.00 E to put against a good used FG or HPI Baja. You'll notice the difference straight away.

+1 go for the FG or HPI..there's a couple of decent ones in the RCU marketplace:balloon:

or maybe a KM Baja?, they seem decent for the coin, but would defo need better steering servo as the stock servo is... useless, new they cost about £500 rtr, or a used FG/HPI baja is a good choice also :)

thanks everyone for the replies I think that I will sell the shengqi hummer on ebay maybe and see what I will get for it and put that with the 350 euro i have. in your opinions what do you think is better for off-road used the hpi or the fg baja as far as durability goes?

the tq isn't bad if you fix a couple things. the knuckles are a weak pint for sure. even adding fg plastic ones help. firehammer mt arms have been really good. I had a set on an fg vw as they are wider than fg arms for stability. that vw has been through 3 owners since me and same arms. I put alloy knuckles on though.

another thing is make a home made motor brace for the back from the bulkhead to the motor casing, stops flex and keeps the motor from moving.

the shocks suck, plain and simple. even new ones leak. the gpm kross shock is a sweet upgrade from rc car online (hobbytek) or just hunt ebay for a set of fg shocks

alloy spur carrier and metal pinion is about the only other upgrades you'd need (and an fg will need those too)

so you seem to think that if I replace a few things on my tq that it will be allright?? or would I still be better off getting a hpi or fg??

i have the king motor baja its my first large scale and its the best thing iv bourght iv had no problims apart from the throttle servo

Tobe,by the time you have bought all the necessary upgrades for the Shengqi you may as well buy a brand new FG/HPI ! It will cost a fortune and still be poop.Trust me on this, get a good used FG/HPI or new KM.

My FG's can run away into rocks at full throttle and only break a couple of screws whereas Voo's baja run away into a kerb & cost hundreds.......go for the FG :clown::lol::lol::clown:

i,ve got a sq baja and for the price it ain,t been bad. as for a second hand hpi baja i would be carefull you need to view it and not just look at pic,s on ebay etc, don,t get me wrong there is some honest sellers but the second hand market is risky

Hey Tobe, thats a thought .The SQ Baja.I think(if anything to go by Pab's) they are pretty tough.I Think the MT was just a trial run for SQ but Pab's Baja is good for the cash.
J.
Paul ,I thought that was a KM you had?

thanks for the replies everyone i really appreciate it. i think that i will end up going for an fg marder they seem to be the most durable of the two. how much would be a reasonable price for a used fg marder in good condition just so i can judge them when i see them on ebay etc

also i have seen an fg marder race on ebay for 500 pounds and it seems pretty mint but it has a 26cc cy engine is this normal as i thaught the fg's came with a zenoah engine???

thanks again :):)

no mate its a s,q got it from radicool racing in rossindale, our kid had the sq hummer thing that was the one that ran away the plastics are pretty poor on the hummer but i think the desert storm hummer shell rules.

I paid £450 for my marder and it was mint when I bought it. It has the Zen 26cc in it & it goes well enough. Ive kept it standard plastic throughout & its tough as fook :gunsmilie: it has to be with my bad driving :clown:
