There are some really good people in RC. They say what they mean, help out, can handle losing, accept that they will never be the best, understand they cant afford everything they want, are grateful for what they have, are honest, are in it for fun and competition, make time for it, are friendly and they generally got it together. These are the people I like. There arent enough of them in RC though. Maybe its becuase Im really into RC I see so many bad apples. I have had almost 130 RCs over the last few years and searched for friends and knowledge with each build. I am a member of forums, I frequent hobby shops and racetracks, Im in a club, I buy and sell through ebay, forums, and online sites. I spend around 40 hours a week w/RC related stuff locally and online and Im tired of all the BS with the ungrateful bad seeds who act like bitter jealous babies because they don't have the dime, the time, the skills, the common sense, or the knowledge to be one of the good RCers. I noticed alot of the bad seeds are also bitter about their trainwreck lives and seem to carry it over. Is it just me and the people around me or do you guys see a lot of this too? Its starting to suck the fun out of RC for me.
 
I would say you need to hang out with better people. There are always those people that have the funds and those that don't.


At my local track there are guys that have $6,000 worth of stuff on their pit table, and others who have a 6 year old rustler and no spare parts.
 
rob64 and myself have ran into some kids that just had to break some ones stuff had a 16 year old that hit my truck rc10gt with a 1/8 scale buggie and sit back and laughed about it that made me mad so i got in the little punks face they they found robs channel and ran his car into the wall so we wouldn't go back to that track because to many punks
 
Luckily for me the few people Ive met from RC personally have been cool as hell!


Ive met Troy,Scott, and Bob from LargescaleRC, Rob64N, and Ron E. Everyone of them were cool, and 90% of the guys on here are as well. Its always easier to get to know people when they share the same passion as you.


I started into hobby grade RC a few years ago with a few guys I work with so I already knew them. We switched from Paintball to RC because of the expense and time required to play. We can load the rigs up and go bash for an hour locally and be home fast. Whereas Paintball was an all day affair and averaged about $70+ a day. Not to mention the closest field is 45min away.
 
I went up Thursday morning, and due to some unforseen circumstances I had to head back home Thursday night. On the way back had 2 flats on the camper and messed my back up. I had intended on coming back up Friday but my back was still hurting pretty bad. Wish I coulda been there to meet your crew :D


Ive met Rob before and hes a very nice guy, you should be proud :)


Maybe in a few weeks I can get backup there for a little track time.

Ron, Im not referring to anyone in particular just the bad seeds of the hobby.


If your example was at my track the Rustler guy would go up to the 6,000 guy and try to get some free parts off him because "he can afford it". Thats the kind of people Im dealing with and some of them I thought were my friends. I don't want to be around people who take advantage of other people like that. Some of my "friends" who don't take advantage of others complain all day about how lifes not fair someone else has better stuff to the point it ruins their whole day. Ungrateful. I can remember waiting to afford my first RC (XL1 rustler) and being so happy when I got it! Rob theres only a few tracks around here and the bad seeds frequent them all. Also I recently got lied to about a few things Ive purchased recently.


Racetruck what happened to the people who would crash into your ride, feel bad and apologize? Im tired of the disrepect. It doesn't matter if your the guy with the $1500 ride or the newbie with a $100 ride no one likes poor sportmanship.


The local places around here are so rough I wouldnt take my family there. Thats part of the reason forums are good. To take a break from the local scene to do my own thing and share.
 
hamster huey you have a good take on that the forums are a place to talk about what you like and learn. that is how i meet looker was on the forum called the rc zone and team rcmx we talked about are cars and trucks for over 10 years on the forums and then he hooked up with large scale and built the first track last year. I have been in the rc hobby back in 1967 i bought my first real rc boat in 1968 a dumas all fibrglass hull but never had the money for a radio back then it was 600.00 bucks for a two channel then in 1994 i got the my two boys into rc i got the rc10gt rob got an hodr buggy my younger son a sport rc10gt and now i have 8 gt's 3 hpi on road 2 rc250 on road my savage 21 miss bud 1/8 scale then rob got into 1/5 scale my miss bud got that started when rob throwed in the miss bud for the first time i hit the gas hard and throwed water all over him it was funny when he said dad thanks

Thanks Brandon !! It means a lot to us as well, to have people who enjoy the hobby around us.


hamster huey : The one thing I can tell you for sure. The posters in this thread are all 100% Great people. There are bad apples in everything & it's our job as Real hobby people to run them out, or Black list them & stay away from them. I've seen a bit of the Un-Needed Drama & Don't like it at all either. Do your own thing & hang with like minded people. There are still lots of good ones out there. ;)
 
This is the engine that i bought for the boat in 1968 enya 19 the break in time was one gallon of fuel and it still runs like a top

There are so many people in this hobby. I used to race 8th scales a lot. Most of the people I met were a lot of fun, but there were some that could almost take the fun out of the day (or get you arrested when you snap and plant a radio in their forehead on the stand haha... just shut up please for 10 seconds this qualy. shut up shut up whap whap)...


our 5th scale guys love our toys, are competitive but fun race now. we don't count laps anymore... we know who's the leader. we share parts and replace what we borrow. guys are going to ask for stuff, but you ask them to replace it. if they ask a second time down the road and conveniently forgot, you can remind them. they'll either be genuine and apologize, or get some attitude. I think we need to teach the newer people not just about their rc's but the overall hobby experience including track etiquette.


when the really good guys are up there racing and someone say bumps a driver and stops and waits for the bumpee to get upand running, that's something to point out to these guys. the pure hobbyists are like that.
 
I run into the few that should swallow the bottom of my race truggy but for the most part I just steer clear of the A-holes and hang with the ones that really get it. For the most part None of us are making any money doing this so if it is that frustrating for those people then maybe they should find something else to do. This is a fun hobby and even when I have a bad weekend of racing it is eternally better than any great day at work. Oh, and paintball guns work wonders on young punks and thier cars by the way.
 
You have to remember there is always going to be bad seeds. Out of all the years I've been into the hobby I must say that I have met some cool people out there on the street and on the net, I have also met plenty of the bad seeds your talking about. The world we live in is tuff, no question about it. People need education and the only way the will get one is to put forth the effort of wanting to learn, no matter what hobby etc. There is always going to be people who want something for nothing as well. I can only hope that some of those seeds will see the light and make a change in their life to do better for themselfs and teach others the good that they learn. You also have a choice, who you choose to communicate with, if it's on the street, net, penpal whatever. It's best to leave well enough alone if it's a lost cause and one thing I learned that changed my life is it's not always best to help someone because they might just bring you down with them.

Time for reflection


Im mellowed out. The "club" fell apart before summer was even over, and the operators of the local track were basically shut down and people they were feuding with are trying to reopen it for next year, but it will be tough. The only other tracks are far away. Id rather take the money Id spend on gas and fees and put that into my current rides. Not to mention to race Id lose 6-8 hours for 1 hour wheel time.


Still got the short end of the stick on a few deals but Ive really cut back so its not too bad. Didnt spend very much at hobbytown, towerhobbies, ebay, amain, hobbypeople, or stormer this year. It helps that I only have a few bashers running instead of a whole RC garage.


I sold my serious racers to get bashers instead. Maybe if the track is good next year Ill have somewhere to race. Right now the only cars Im driving are for fun sometimes w/1-3 friends, and we are on the lookout for good spots. I still cant afford a decent piece of RC land.

You just described our track/club, man this hobby is begining to suck the life out of me......I think I will be driving 2 hours to play this year.........because its that bad around here...... :( I thought this was supposed to be fun, but with all the control freaks, and poor choices made by the club/president made this fall, I cant see any good coming in the spring..... :mad:
 
No mater where ya go, what ya do there will be them bad seed's. But In the same hand there are more good folks there as well. I would navigate away from the bad and look for new positive rc buddies or even run solo in public area's. i met my best friend when i was driving a new blackfoot over 20 yrs ago i think its been. I was out bashing alone and he just walked up. I let him drive and son a gun broke something, but it was fun and we had a instant friendship. That day he bought a blackfoot from me and we were back out there. Its such a fun hobby, it opens the door easily to meet folks. its hard to go anywhere with any rc and not draw attention if your in the public eye. I sometimes stand around the lhs and randomly comment on someones rig they bring in, right there that moment is opening a door.

Id be your buddy if we lived be eachother. Never have to many rc buddies!!
