Is the G290RC about the best bang for the buck?

My 5B is an original 23cc and I'm at high altitude (Utah). So I'm looking for some more power. I've shopped around and found several 26cc new takeouts from Losi's and HPI's, but if I'm going to upgrade, I think spending a little more and getting the Zen 28.5cc 4 bolt is a better option. It seems to be the best bang for the buck as far as performance, durability and price ($239 through Gizmo).

This would also allow me to build up the 23cc to have as a spare (or leave it stock as a spare).

Thoughts?

biggest bang for buck will be a pipe if you don't already have one, there will be a differnce from 23cc to 29cc(i did it when i got my marder) but the difference is alot bigger with a good tuned pipe.

zen 299

i think it is a good choice and the best price on the web. i/ve done biz with gizmo and been to their shop. great people. i ended up with a 30.5 stroker which has much more power over the stock 23 i had.

I already have a pipe which really made a difference, but I'm just looking for more. I like the 4 bolt for durability. I know the 2 bolts are plenty strong, but I build and race 1:1 motors and know the stronger something is, the more abuse it will take, and the longer it will last.

I do plan on building up my 23cc as well with the big bore top end, but it's something I'd like to do in my spare time without having my 5b torn apart waiting.

I'm going to pull the trigger on that zen.

Sounds great, you'll be happy with the zen for sure. I'll likely get the zen but would like to do a rebuild with same top end or bigger on my 26cc cy for build experience as well but gotta wait a bit till some money's saved.

It's in, broke in, and a few tanks deep now. Absolutely LOVE it. It's got a great balance of torque and RPM. I also have the ESP ported version of this motor in my Rampage. Awesome motors.

Gizomo motors sells Zen G290 for $239. With them you can put a 29mm crank in with out having to stack gaskets or machine the cylinder. But make sure you check squish.

That's where I got it. It was $229 plus $10 for the carb or clutch, I don't remember which.
