Is there a specific way to remove bearings?

Just trying to find out if there's an easy way or a special technique when removing bearings for servicing or replacement. For example the hub bearings are very difficult to remove I had to stick a flat head screwdriver and kind of move it all around until they started coming out little by little. Is there an easier way to do this or maybe lubricate the outside of the bearing with grease when installing so next time it slides out easier?
