Is this a good strong (read fast and powerful) engine?

I have a 2 bolt ONB ported 27.2 that I built on a budget. I got the 2 bolt 27.2 ported top end, and for a few dollars more I got a lightened and relieved piston both from Oneill. Ive never had problems w/2 bolts so didnt see the need to switch over to 4. I also got a new stuffed +2 crank, an engine gasket kit, and the tools to rebuild my current block. I wanted the lightened flywheel but ran out of coin.


Its possible to have the piston expand too much from heat which can be confused for a lean seize. The relieving helps w/that.


The product I got from ONB is outstanding. Over the phone service was great. The 27.2 head is powerful.
 
I spoke with them today and I do agree that the service is outstanding. They were having a sale on that motor for $279. I figured after all the parts I need to rebuild my engine, the price will be almost comparable with the exception that I have to rebuild it myself.


I have an engine to rebuild this winter already (dirtbike) so I don't feel the need to do so with these.


I pulled the trigger on this. Can't wait to see if there's a difference over the 28cc I've got. I'll likely sell the 28 once this one goes in.

I went with the 27.2 instead. I don't want to be replacing diffs and gears too often, plus I'm try to get it down to 27lbs or so. I shave 1.2lbs on it today, by going to the plastic a-arms and upper suspension arms (Front and back). I'm looking forward to this engine.

hey im confused, doesn't the cc tell you how fast the motor is going to go (excuse my ignorance) what can I get from ONB that will make it faster than DDM motors :confused:to make my rampage motor fassssst. I bought a 28.5 head kit, but it doesn't seem that fast. I guess im used to the 1\8 electric power. im new to the 1\5 gas, so don't know much about motors, im looking for a killer motor to run down these guys with the 1/8
 
With these engines you will not run down an 1/8 scale. Top rpm on nitro engines run up to 34,000 rpm whereas these gas engines run up to roughly 14,000 rpm.
 
If you go for an ONB Machined and ported or a DDM ESP Machined and Ported, they are both worked on by people in the US that take 'care' in doing the work.


I would definately go for a better pipe first...you can still use it if you decide to go with another motor but a better exhaust than that RedCat Pro one will make a big difference...


Also if you go for the Baja adapters and run some type of baja tire, it will be much faster (4+ lbs. lighter)

Now I'm confused, What your saying is an ESP 27.2 will not give an O.S 1/8 nitro engine a run for it's money with take-off OR top speed?

Right, we can't compare these to nitros.but that's my opinion
