I was out bashing last Fri with a buddy who just got a killer deal on a KM buggy. We where doing some hill climbing when my XB made a weird sound then died. I knew it didn't sound right or good. No compression, no start. Took it home and tore it down. Sure enough the head gasket took a crap. I can clearly see where it blew thru. Minor wear on sleeve and piston. On top of that I busted my fairly new 8000k spring. I'm guessing all this from over revving while climbing?

I'm going to go the ESP ported 30.5 head kit, walbrol990 and a new pipe. Anything else I should look at while its apart? I was thinking about a phatdad stack also behind the Carb. Are these worth it? Is a 2 bolt even worth building or is it just gonna give me problems? Stock 4 bolt vs ported/bored 2 bolt?

Buy the cylinder kit and a few gaskets. Throw a new gasket on the old cylinder and run it until it dies. May as well get what you can out of it.

My plans are to buy a head kit to play with and port the old one. That way if I mess up there's no loss. Anyone know where to get crank cases by themselves?

Strange that you could bust a clutch spring from over revving a stock motor but hey we have all seen strange things happen. Ddm have a large range of parts.

Are you using the stock HY clutch shoes? If so, that could be why the spring snapped. The holes are farther apart and put more stress on the spring. I broke a DDM 7500 spring in less than a gallon and was told that's the reason why.

That sucks about the blown gasket, I've had the same problems. Go with a 4 bolt :)

its a good idea to look at the springs closely- being mass produced, they sometimes do not feed into the cutter mode of the machine correctly- look at the end loops for a small partal cut. any imperfection on the surface of this tempered metal will lead to failure. - i bought a spring a while back with one end loop missing- machine had a bad day- lol.- i joked back and forth with the supplier- made his day-lol.- had a new one in 3 days.

I'm not a fan of how the red springs fit on the CY shoes. They don't hook as far through the holes as I would like. I now just use the pre-assembled sets.

Lol..damn dog

So my next question is this...ESP vs OBR?

I'm looking at both of their big bore kits. Since I don't need the 2mm crank and the price is about the same on both. I was wanting some opinions and/or experiences with both.

Is the stock 2mm crank as good as the one I can get from either company?

The cranks are essentially the same. If you get a crank from either builder, it'll be a CY. So there's really nothing special about them. Unless you want to go with a stuffed crank. Which I'm not a fan of.
